View Full Version : Nutless recipes?

There are many of us that have difficulty digesting nuts....even raw/sprouted....I hate that fact but my digestion had severe issues prior to going raw and I have it "narrowed down" to nuts being the culprit that "reaggravates" old issues of IBS, chronic fatigue, etc.....

I've even tried taking Alissa's enzymes with nuts but it's not enough :( ...So, I have done a search on nutless recipes but turned up nill. Is there a recipe book or at least some ideas that can be used that includes either nutless recipes/ substitutions for nuts??? I seem to do OK with avacado and EVO.

At this point I am having turmoil over the issue because it seems that the longer I am raw the more limited my choices have become due to old health issues or maybe it's detoxification I don't know but honestly, it has really caused me to question my purposes here....Sorry for being brutally honest. I guess I just need a pep talk to get back on track....

I AM 100% RAW...with no slip ups AT ALL since early December (and have been raw since 8/5/06...with maybe 12 slip ups total during "transition" but none for a long time aside from 12/9).......I have tried fasting but due to my lifestyle and activity level I CAN'T last more that a day.....so nutless is what I need to try and I have "commited" myself to avoiding them for the month of February to see if I can clear up my intestinal bloating, etc....
Thank you everyone! I know you'll all give me tons of ideas already. That is why I LOVE this forum! It's the only place I can be surrounded by like minded individuals!!!! ;)

Follow the link for a yummy burger recipe without nuts. I made it with the food processor and without the dulse powder and they were delicious. I took the burgers to a raw potluck at work and they were completely eaten up!

Another quick and easy favorite of mine with yams is just to slice them into "chips" and dip them in guacamole - yummo!

They look great, thank you...one minor problem is that I have a wheat allergy (gluten) so maybe I could substitute with???? sprouted lentils/extra vegetables????.....I'll experiment! I love sweet potatoes! I just sliced a bunch and they are soaking in salt water as we speak. I will "marinate" them in spices, garlic, liquid aminos, and a little evo.. and then dehydrate them tomorrow...They are great with guac too! Sometimes I can't resist to wait till they're done and I get them "warm off the tray" part way through! Delish!
Thanks again!

Sometimes I just eat the bw groats like a cereal and add almond milk and fruit. Let it soak a bit to soften. A banana blitzed in water in the blender and added to the groats is yummy to avoid nuts. Add fruit to your liking and it's really filling.

You can also sprout them by soaking a day and sprouting a day or 2. Some folks sprout them and then dehydrate them after to make crunchy granola for cereal or salad sprinkle.

You can also blitz the sprouted bw and then use that as a base for bread dough. If you don't eat flaxseeds which makes things stick, a blitzed apple works with the bw since the sticky pectin does the job. Perhaps a carrot, zuchhini or whatever veg you have processed too...add seasonings then spread on teflex in dehydrator for 3-4 hours and flip and dry more...bready.

Never eat mature sprouted buckwheat leaves and mature plants though...not good for you. Unless you're growing them out in the backyard or over a week...not a concern.

Here are a couple of threads!Hope some of this will help you brainstorm and love bw as much as I do!

Petals made cinnamon rolls with buckwheat groats subbed for oats in a rawkinlocs recipe. (not sure if you eat oats, I avoid for the timebeing)

Thank you for so much info.! I will put bG on my list for the hf store tomorrow! Did you begin raw due to the gluten intolerance? That's what I did simply because label reading and mislabeled products drove me to obsession. An apple is an apple and spinach is spinach....no need to search out hidden gluten/dairy! Simplicity of raw and the fact that my "issues" went away convinced me.....although my "old" issues of IBS crept up on me lately so I narrowed it down to nuts.....which is why I am looking for nutless recipes! and here I am....So I appreciate the ideas because MOST recipes call for nuts/wheat berries! ;)

Thank you for the thread.
I am also forced by digestive issues to be nutless.

This is my favorite recipe EVER, took it to my Moms when she was having a bar-b-que and all the guests were asking for the recipe.
I top it off with spicy cashews but without them the dish is still wonderful

Young Coconut Pad Thai
----------------------
One cup each, julliened:
granny smith apple, skin on
zucchini
carrot
red cabbage

1/2 cup each, julliened:
red onion
red bell pepper

3 cups, julliened:
young thai coconut (about 3 coconuts)

I used the food processor for all of that except for the apple and zucchini.

Put that all in a big bowl and add this sauce:

Pad Thai Sauce
---------------------
2 Tbsp tamarind juice
1.5 Tbsp maple syrup
1.5 Tbsp nama shoyu (raw soy sauce)
1.5 Tbsp minced garlic
1.5 tsp minced serrano chili
1 Tbsp virgin olive oil
1/4 tsp celtic sea salt

Blend in Blender until smooth.

Mix that whole mess up really good, then put a handful on a plate or in a bowl. Use this almond chili sause to liberally garnish :

Almond Chili Sauce:
---------------------------
1/2 cup raw almond butter
1 Tbsp minced peeled fresh ginger
2 cloves garlic
1 thai dragon chili (remove the seeds unless you want to burn your lips off)
2 Tbsp fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 Tbsp maple syrup
1 Tbsp nama shoyu
1/4 cup filtered water, if needed, to thin
Celtic sea salt and fresh gound pepper, to taste (I didn't need it)

You can also garnish with some more nama shoyu and sesame oil, and also with spicy cashews.

NFrawRUNNER - have you made Alissa's Marinara sauce? It is really good. I was very pleasantly surprised. I really like my zucchini spaghetti and marinara. My 23yo son really likes it too. He took some with him to work tonight.

DI..you may find buckwheat too strong a taste for some recipes. I use Soaked Oat (soak in fridge up to 5 days) when I want a more neutral grain in a recipe.

Try making a granola cereal, I dried banana and grapes, BG& Oat Sprouts to replace the nut factor in your diet. I used Alissa'a Cracker with Flax, Banana and OJ.

Make Buckwheat Crunches from Raw Food World (I have the book if you do not & need the recipe). :D

Yes, I was gluten intolerant/celiac and also cut out corn and then eggs due to allergy so going raw wasn't very hard for me. I couldn't eat anythign anyway!Saying no to cooked is easier for me I think because I can't eat it anyway..odd blessing in disguise...

I hope you like the bg!

I just made Alissa's Broccomole recipe for the first time (no nuts in it) and I really like it. It is moist and tasty, I know a lot of people don't like raw broccoli (or so it seems!) but this is really good.

Since I usually make nut based pates this is a nice change of pace, more of a veggie pate! It is on page 315 in her book.
