Hi everyone,

I tried to be raw last summer for about a month, but during that time a skin condition that I have started to flare up. So, I jumped to a vegan Candida diet, which helped somewhat but was hard for me to maintain ( I have a bit of a sweet tooth). So, my hands have been cycling through good and bad periods. Finally, I decided that I have had enough and that maybe a body cleanse will help. So, I am doing a Master Cleanse right now for two weeks. I am on day 4 and cannot wait to end it, because all that my body is craving are the apples and bananas on the counter that my sons are eating. I think this time will be much better for my raw lifestyle.

I am 23 years old, a mom to 3 year old twin boys, married for 3 and a half years and we live in the Monterey Bay region of California. I have my degree in Marine Biology, but am a SAHM right now. However, I have a desire to open my own business and sell organic flannel baby quilts, so who knows? I may be a WAHM soon.

So glad to have found this board. What a great area.

Thanks,

Lisa

Hi Lisa, welcome to the board! I'm curious to know about your experience with candida and how you plan to work a raw diet around it. I started raw around 6 weeks ago, and I think all the fruit uncovered a candida condition I didn't even know I had! So I'm doing a lot of green smoothies with granny smith apples and not making the banana or dried fruit/nut desserts.

Welcome, Lisa. You've found a great place to be raw -- lots of support here. Could the flareup have been your body detoxing when you were raw? Just a thought. Our bodies do some strange and wonderful things when we're not loading them up with stuff that interferes with their healing!

Good luck on the MC -- wow! Two weeks!!

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

This is my 9th day on the MC and I am elated at the results. Even yesterday while I was making my sons (milk and soy allergic) oatmeal raisin cookies, I wasn't even tempted to eat the dough or the cookies. Big improvement for me.

As far as the Candida goes, mainly my problems with food have been manifesting themselves lately with my right hand swelling and cracking and bleeding. It just seems like I have become allergic to so many foods that I used to enjoy (after my babies were born I was eating a lot of cheese and broke out in a really bad eczema rash on my right hand - when I stopped all dairy, my eczema cleared up).

I am craving simple fruits and veggies. A nice salad with a cucumber dill dressing and all the fruit that I can get my hands on, even though that is not supposed to be good for Candida. I have a guy that is willing to give me a dehydrator from the local Freecycle board and I will take that, because I don't know what I am going to do on our 12 hour trip to AZ next month for my grandma's birthday. But, I don't plan on dehydrating much.

When I was raw last year for the little amount of time, I tried a lot of Juliano's recipes and they were atrocious to say the least. I couldn't stomach any of them and I was amazed at how much fat was in each one. So, this time I am keeping it simple. I may soak some nuts, but everything I have tried sprouted has not been good.

I cannot wait to to go to the Farmers Markets this week to look at the produce (something besides lemons! LOL) and stock up for the week.

I really enjoy this board. Thanks.
