I tried this today, and I've tried many methods, but this worked the best.
1.Using the dry blade container of my Vitamix, I ground about a cup of raw almonds into a flour. (Some of it did stick to the bottom, but I just mixed it up with a spatula and kept going.)
2. I transfered that flour into the wet blade container, with a tbsp. of Coconut oil. (If I could find raw almond oil, I'd totally use that instead :-\)
3. I processed and processed with the tamper, alternating speeds, and purposely letting it heat up a beat, but not to much. I could put my hand on/in it and not be burned, so I don't think the heat was too high.
Shabammmm. Almond butter, the best and most buttery I've ever made.

have you ever made raw cashew butter? How do you make that? I only tried one way and that was just adding raw cashes to the vitamix and it was too dry and didn't work out that well. Someone said to soak the cashews first and then blend them but not to add oil because cashews are oily any advice? THANKS Glad your almond butter turned out good :)

I've honestly never tried cashews before. I think I'd try my same process for them though, from flour into butter.
Heat honestly helps though, I think I might even put the nuts in a ziplock back and then into my dehydrator, THEN make them into butters.
I've done Almonds and Peanuts so far, but I think sesame seeds are next!

Smilingkyle, I know this is a bit off subject; I have a Vita-Mix question. I bought a Vita-Mix 3600 from e-bay and it works great. It only came with one container. I didn't know that they had wet and dry. Are the blades different? Can you let me know? I also would like to make my own nut butters. My DW and DD love them.
I don't want to hijack your thread so you can email me if you want.
Thanks in advance. :)

:D
Yes, the wet and dry blades are different by a little bit:
The dry blade has flat and pointy up-y blade, that keep flours circulating better, the wet...umm..I don't remember what the blades look like, but they're different :-D
Check the Vitamix website!

smilingkyle...the markets love special orders...it's a sure sale for them. My friend is a veg dept. grocer and he loves to help people out with things like this...I know you're shy, I am too...but the veggie people LOVE their jobs and would like to help anyone out...
you can email/phone them to take the first step...then the ice is broken when you arrive in person. :)
Thanks for the almond butter how to!

....Okay....I'll do it ...haha
First I'm going to call the Asian market nearby (that I didn't know existed! ) and ask if they carry the Coconuts, and how much they are.
If they're .99 cents, like other people have found them....yayy!

Thanks Smilingkyle, I'll check it out.
BTW - Apasaraw is right. I make special orders at the local Nutritions Mart all the time. They love to help. They have even called me and asked if I needed more of an item and to see if I was happy with the service.

I just bought some raw sesame oil, so I can make an attempt at my own Tahini (so I KNOW it's raw.)
Here's a dumb question:
Do people eat flaxseed butter?
