Does anyone know on average how long it takes to digest certain foods?

It's just that it seems like about 15-20 minutes after I eat a meal, sometimes I'm ready for a bowel movement.. and I don't think it could be the food I *just* ate could it? hmmmm...

lol. here I go again with questions about poop.
just call me the poop queen people. :p

Luna- Raw foods are called *quick-exit* foods. Esp...fruits. When we combined correctly-they exit much faster...which is really good for you!!!

Sounds like you are doing well w/the right combos. ;)

My husband has noticed that he-even not all Raw-goes much more than before.

Flax seed crackers-when I eat with salads, dips-etc..are super for me as well.

Are you talking about time through the stomach, or through the whole digestive system? There's no way a food can get through the digestive system in less than eight hours, unless it triggers diarrhea.

I feel the same way! Sometimes RIGHT after I eat, I'll have to go.
I think it's just that when I eat, my stomach gets going, and triggers my bowel-area to speed things up, cause there's gonna be a line behind it soon :p

That's called the gastrocolic reflex - but usually in the morning I have to go before I eat anything.

...in reference to whether a fast begins as soon as you finish your last meal or after your body has digested it. Yesterday, Nature banged on my door seven times (I think it was seven. Actually, I lost count after four). This has been a regular occurrence most days since I started eating completely raw. I was wondering how come I have to go seven times in one day if I'm only taking in foods three or four times a day. By the way, does anyone have any opinions as to the above question? Enquiring minds an' all...

Oh my gosh, the same thing happened to me when I went raw. I couldn't take it! I have to drive alot for my job, I got to know every toilet on the way.
Needless to say I am not all raw right now, just about 65%.. I am hoping to ease into 100% veeeery slowly. I can't take pooping every 15 minutes for crying out loud!

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, and I would venture a guess that digestion times may be even quicker for fruits and vegetables, whereas denser 'foods', like meat, take huge amounts of energy to process, and even then, can still end up festering in the colon for years without the body being able to get rid of it. Thanks for your input on the question :)

I hear ya! I've found that eating nuts and seeds helps slow things down a little, so you're not in a situation where you're too scared to move five feet from the nearest bathroom :) Good oils, like organic, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, are excellent for lubricating the bowel walls to get things moving along if you find yourself becoming constipated as a result of eating exclusively raw foods, as some people do.

Cheers!

I think when you eat it triggers digestion and gets things moving. That is why when you get up in the am sometimes all you have to do is have a glass of water and you have to poo! I would imagine it is the same thing when you eat a meal... you eat, it gets the digestive system cranking, and it contracts and pushes things down, and you have the urge to poop. It doesn't mean that you are pooping out your meal though! It is probably your last meal or the meal before or whatever.

Since I started raw 11 days ago I poop just about every time I sit down to pee. In fact I kind of have to poop right now :o . LOL... it is rediculous all the time with the poo. I don't really mind - it's not like diahreah....
I like feeling cleaned out.

yeah, I meant through the entire digestive system... I was sitting there thinking "I just ate a salad, I can't be pooping it out 20 minutes later!"... but I think what you said in the other post is right... eating gets the digestive juices flowin' and it's probably the meal I ate previously.

On raw it has become very clear to me that my body will not release the bowels until I eat. As soon as I eat the body decides that it will not need to reabsorb the bowels. The starving human body will even eat its own fetus. I still have weight to lose so my body still has that resource - I am not starving by any means. This was not evident to me on SAD. I had many digestive orders throughout the digestive tract on SAD. The only time my body releases bowels without the stimulus of food intake is when I have clearly eaten too much. Last night I ate way way way too much so even though I have not eaten this a.m. my body made me go and go and go because it knows it has too much.
