Does or can coconut oil clog your arteries? I am type 2 diab. and have to watch for things that might put me at risk.
I would like to put a tablsp. in my morning smoothie.

No, that is a myth. It has been maligned and lumped together with saturated animal fats but it doesn't even remotely have the same effect. It's actually one of the healthiest oils with amazing metabolic benefits. That's what I've read.

A lot of people use coconut oil for oil pulling:D.

Coconut Oil is mainly a saturated fat, but the makeup of it is so complex that unless you eat tons and tons of it you should not have any problem metabolizing it properly. As a matter of fact, with the almost complete absence of saturated fat in a typical raw vegan diet, you would be doing good to get *some* saturated fat. A little is helpful for skin and joints....a lot will clog your arteries. Most people get way, way too much, thus the "saturated fat is bad" label.

Coconut Oil is wonderful, in my opinion, and a tbsp a day is what I use.

If it's raw coconut oil it's good for you! Those old studies saying it was bad were done on partially hydrogenated coconut oil. Yuck! I have type 2 diabetes and since adding 1-2 T. per day of coconut oil to my diet I've been losing weight and my labs have all been in range. My Drs. are impressed!

I have been using pure, unrefined raw coconut oil for so long that I forgot there was any other kind! Definitely stay away from any that isn't extra virgin, cold-processed.

If you are concerned, consume raw, fresh coconut meat instead. Always opt for the whole, raw food, and you, for the most part, can't go wrong.

Personally, based on credible science, I don't consume any oils or any other processed food, which is what oil is, regardless of the method employed to refine it.

There is a good book that I got online called : The Miracles of Coconut Oil.. it talks about people in Sri Lanka not having any heart disease or ailments that is so prevelant in the States, and they consume more coconut oil then most people on the planet.

What brands are you buying?

Is coconut oil in a solid or liquid form we need? Then how to do we get it to liquid state? Blend as in smoothies?

Buying it where?

How are you using it?

Thanks.

I got my coconut oil from a healthfood store. But some stores carry it in their organic section. All the ones I have seen come semi - solid, soft. Just take a tblsp. out and add it to your smoothie as is and blend. It comes in a jar. Like a mayonaise jar (shape, i mean.).

The one I buy is hard when cold/room temp. I just set it in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes and it becomes liquid.

mix it into some ground up cacao nibs, with some agave and vanilla flavoring....then throw it into the freezer. THE best raw thing I've eaten so far!

Well, with the exception of also adding dried raw coconut flakes and almonds....homemade mounds bars. WOWOWOWOW

Next time I'm going to add raspberry puree and whole berries instead of the coconut flakes and almonds. mmmmmmmmmm

Unfortunately, I told my mom how awesome it was and she came back with a major fear of the high saturated fat......sigh. Yep, Mom, don't eat coconuts, but go ahead and order pizza dripping in grease and make pies with lard. :p

I like coconut oil with some salt as a butter substitute on crackers or corn.

I'm amused watching it go from solid to liquid and back as the house changes temperature this time of year. Melting point must be in the 70s somehwere.

I keep mine in the refrigerator and often when I reach in to get something I take a little piece and eat it. I love the taste of it and to me it's just like candy as it is.
