Nutz Over RAW

Hi from California!
I'm new to raw and so far I love it! I've grown up as a semi-vegetarian, I'm 38 and I am so lucky to grow up around my grandmother who taught me so much. She had cancer about 30 years ago and beat it when 2 specialists told her she wouldn't make it. Her vet saved her life by telling her about Anne Wigmore (the pioneer of raw).Since then, she's been a vegetarian and taught me eating habits when I refused to eat meat...I just didn't like it. My mother told me that I used to spit up the meat baby food. My grandmother ate raw to heal herself, not a lifetime commitment, although she still eats fairly healthy (organic, etc). My mother died of cancer 2 years ago (January 27th). She was Cajan French and ate very rich buttery food and not organic. I tried to get her to follow Anne Wigmore's diet when she was diagnosed, but she wouldn't. Sigh. Anyway...it seems that cancer runs in our family and even though I'm vegetarian and have eaten organic for a long time, raw makes sense to me and my grandmother is living proof. I told her the other night that I've been eating about 90% raw for the last couple of weeks. It sounds like she wants to eat raw again! She still has Anne Wigmore's recipe book. I've accumulated quite a few un-cook books in the last few weeks (Alissa's book was the first). My friend works at a restaurant supply (new and used equipment) and I purchased a vita-mix for $120 (the base is used and the rest is new) and he also sold me an awesome used juicer for $150 (it's a Norwalk and on the Norwalk website, they go for about $1,600 used!). Unbelievable how much they go for new (~$2500+)! I wasn't going to do it until I read up on it and I went back and bought it. My Dad gave me his dehydrator (it's not a excaliber (sp?), bit I inserted a temperature control and it has about 20 screens). I'll have to play around with it to ensure that I have eventemperature. So....now I'm equipped with awesome kitchen toys and ready to go! Today I had lots of fruit (2 bananas, 2 mandarin oranges, Asian pear and an apple), raw easter chocolate (thanks to a thread on this site) and Alissa's angel hair pasta and marinara sauce. I haven't made RP's brownies yet, but I will soon (I told you I've been lurking). This is a wonderful site and I can't wait to experiment! Thank you so much for the knowledge I've gained so far and I'm looking forward to the journey!
