Hey Guys,

Totally newbie raw vegan/live foodist here. And I already have got confused along the way... I've learned, that seeds and nuts are lying dormant (sorry, not exatly sure about the correct phrase, not a native English speaker here), so to wake the enzymes up I have to soak them in water for various time. Right?
Well, just the other day I prepared some dinner from Alissa's book (Fettuccine Alfredo) and used pine nuts, macadamia, cashew...etc. The book didn't state any required sokaing. Does it mean my Alfredo sauce was dead? Same thing with the date nut torte, I didn't soak the walnuts.

Please someone tell me about the soaking rules. I'm planning to make some 'trail mix' snack bar using seeds, nuts, dried fruits and honey. I need to know the correct method.

Thank you in advance!

Cheers!

I would highly recommend to use nuts and seeds that have been soaked overnight. It is fine to use them without soaking once and awhile but I would not get in the habit of doing it all the time.

Some people soak their nuts and then dry them in the dehydrator so that they are "alive" yet not *wet* when using them in certain recipes.

I only did that once since it took like 3 days for the almonds to get crispy.

Also, it doesn't mean your food is "dead" ...
