I have been experiencing what appear to be (by regular doctors) unfixable issues. I want to try raw hoping something good might happen for me. I don't know where to start, what to do, and really what to expect. Is there really detox? I couldn't feel much worse than I do now, so......what the heck. Anyone want to give me a suggestion as to how I could start and what to eat? Thanks.

WELCOME!! You've come to the right place!

I'll let others that are more eloquent offer additional tidbits of advice - but will start off by saying that all you need to start out is Alissa's book (which you can purchase here: www.alissacohen.com. It really is the only guide you'll need on how this all works, what you need to know, and tons and tons of recipes.

So glad you found raw. I'll have been raw for 30 days on 2/5 and have LOVED it and the positive results!!

I agree with Beckla on getting Alissa's book AND dvd's so you'll see how easy it is to prepare these delicious foods AND she's got LOTS of info on people who have healed themselves with her program.

I also suggest finding a Levels 1 and 2 teacher in your area so you can eat and learn about the foods; ask questions and begin to build a support group of people in your area.

There is info on the "home" page here on how to get started as well.

Most of all, have fun!

You could start really simple - eat only raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds. No special equipment to buy, just simple food, and drink lots of pure water (half your weight in ounces).

Welcome! This is THE best place to start and ask questions. The banana up top helps with that - it's the search feature.
Also - yes, DO get Alissa's book and DVD if you can afford both. SO worth it.
I've been Vegetarian for 26 years, Vegan for 2 and now raw for going on 8 months and I too didn't know where to start. Until her book and DVD come, do like was suggested. Eat simple. Basic. Organic fruits and veggies. Green smoothies - read the green smoothie recipe thread.
Here's a simple one:
2 cups filtered water
handful of greens, like spinach, kale, green leafy lettuce
banana (fresh or frozen)
and another fruit if you wish, or a cucumber (peeled unless it's organic)
whiz that up, and man! You've got one heck of a powerful drink!
You will astound your doctors. I did. My migraines have been cured - I've 'em all my life and my thryoid awoke. I was diagnosed with a dead one about 6 years ago. Ask and learn. Read, read, read. All you can regarding raw!
Why don't you join the Fabulous February 30-day challenge that's posted?

The above posts are GREAT!

-Ask yourself (roughly) what overall percentage of fresh, raw, unprocessed plant foods are in your diet now.....and make a commitment to increase that percentage by perhaps 1-2% per week......with VERY small realistic goals that you are prepared to do on a daily basis until you reach your goals. Eating this way CAN be as simple as eating more of the fresh fruits & vegetables that you LOVE.....or it can be made into a complicated series of dishes and rules....but it's up to you! You'll get lots of great encouragement and support from Rawkinlocs and the great folks on this board (including myself).
