Pine Nuts MY Current Favorite

Does anyone else here find that pine nuts taste a little like pork fat? Maybe it's just me and my wishful thinking, but, they taste like pork fat to me. I was in heaven tonight as I tasted them for the first time. What a great addition to my salad!

Um the first time I tried them I tasted different flavours.

First it tasted the way Weed smells Yuck!

But as I chewed it it started to remind me of sunflower seeds. ;)

Maybe they were not fresh. They should taste fresh and of slight resin
(as in pine) and creamy. Was this the taste maybe?

I LOVE pine nuts, too :) When I was a little girl, I used to help gather pine cones with my grandmother and pick the nuts out. Fun! (but sticky)

They were very fresh, and the taste you mentioned were also there. But they also reminded me of pork fat.

Yum!!! I love pine nuts...my parents were from Northern New Mexico where it was common practice in the fall to go pinon gathering and large groups would go into the mountains and collect the pinon from under the, guess what?? Pine trees where they fall out of the pine cones...I loved hearing that story cuz I had no idea where they came from. Our relatives would send us a shoe box full at Christmas time always in the shell...quite a feat to sit and eat shelled pine nuts and only in the past years do they come in bulk shelled....

Gee, I never thought of them tastsing like pork fat but you know what...I can see where they sorta do...and I'm allowed to think something tastes like anything I want. I'm a raw vegan and I can still smell a bar-b-que from a thousand yards and think, 'oh, that smells good'...maybe someday I won't...and I if I don't...oh well.

Okay, now I gotta go get me some pine nuts...they seem to go with any and everything...

Zuri - no worry, to me they definitely do not taste like pork fat-EWWWW! They have their own unique taste. I think Tony was saying that because he wants to bogart all the pine nut suppliers so we can't get them! :p
