Does anyone know if you substitute one for the other what the measurements would be? For example one cup of carob=how much cacao?

thanks,

Mary

Hi, Mary...I'm new here. I don't have an answer for your question, but I am curious as to which one you like better and why?

I like cacao better because it reminds me of chocolate more-only bitter-I have to add a sweetener. Carob is good-just tastes different to me.
Give them a try when you can.

MMM I LOVE CAROB!!! Haven't eaten chocolate in a loooooooong time (1.5 yrs?)

You can use equal amounts ^_^ A recipe calls for 1/2c cocoa powder, use 1/2c carob powder :D

I also use equal amounts of cocoa and carob. If it calls for 1/2 cup, I use 1/4 cup of each. The cocoa is much more expensive and this way it lasts longer. My first sweet recipe was Alissa's fudge balls and I used all carob. I liked it, but it wasn't sweet enough. My little sister is 13 and she watched Alissa's DVD with me. Alissa mentioned that she was at a pizza place and went in the bathroom and popped a fudge ball. My little sister kept going back to the fridge and saying "let's pop a fudge ball!" She even made a point to go in the bathroom to pop a fudge ball.
I was at our local organic market and another raw foodist turned me on to Navita Raw Chocolate Powder. It's very chocolaty so I don't taste the equal amount of carob. It is $11.99 for 8 oz. Pricey, but cheaper than (I think the other tasty option was Nature's Law)...but use carob too and it goes a long way.
