Hi everyone,
I have been about 98% raw for about 5 weeks now. I am still having digestive problems and thought I should look more at food combining. I have suffered for many years with irritable bowel, leaky gut and candida. I also think I might need a parasite cleanse. The only problem is I have been either pregnant or breastfeeding for the past 5.5 years and so haven't been able to do an internal cleanse or fast. I am still breastfeeding now.
I am a bit confused at the food combining chart in Alissa's book. When you read it one way, it doesn't match the other way. For eg. When you read across - Proteins don't match up with any fruits, but reading the fruits across, Acid Fruits are an excellent match and sub acid a fair match (with proteins).
Also, Alissa says that melons should be eaten on their own, but the chart shows melons can be eaten with lettuce, acid fruits & sub acid fruits.
Can someone shed some light on this chart or point me in the direction of a book/website to get good info on this. I understand there could be conflicting opinion on this as well (?)
Where does fresh corn fit in? (dried corn is under grain). What about sundried tomatoes, agave, honey, nama shoyu, AC vinegar etc.
Sorry if this has been posted before, I tried doing a search several different ways but kept getting an error?

Try "Raw Secrets" by Frederic Patenaude, or Dr. Richard Klein I think it's www.crohnes-colitis.com. I had the same issue with crohnes disease and I needed to combine properly, although alissa has wonderful recipies and her book is brilliant, you may need to alter you meals in order to heal as I did and then go ahead and make some of her killer dishes:)
basically, no nuts or raw veg if you have a flare up
eat fruit alot and make juices
also broths helped me too.
steam veggies(very lightly) eat whole or make soup.
Quick combining:
sweet fruits: bananas dates okay with sub acid friuts like peaches nectarines cheries.
no mix acid and sub acid like pineapple and rasins
nuts and fats go well with leafy greens, try not to mix oils and nuts. avos and nuts okay to mix. no fruit and nuts or starch and friut, be careful with starch and nuts(soaked grains I mean). also a great book is by brian clement,
called, "living Foods For Optimu Health". I would suggest this one over all, and Dr. Klein.

Just a thought:
-You COULD also go around the whole issue by eating one thing at a time until full (at least until any outstanding medical problems are resolved and your digestion stronger). Just an option.

Hello there,
I agree with David, eating mono (one item per meal) would be the healthiest way for you to go now while you are healing.
Also, you should get Dave Klein's book "Self healing Colitis & Crohns" You can order it on amazon or at Dave's website. Dave has healed himself and thousands of other people on a fruit based raw vegan diet. He also does private consultations and publishes an awesome raw magazine called "Living Nutrition". He is great!
All the best,
Audrey

Thanks for your replies guys!
The whole food combining thing does seem rather complicated - eating mono would be much simpler. It will be hard though when I make yummy things for my family like raw pizza, chili, flat breads and desserts. It's been a big enough transition going raw. But I really do want to heal from this awful problem. I first thought that going raw in itself would heal it, but I think it has been like this for so many years that it will take a bit more.
So, from your experience, did eating like this (combining or eating mono) heal your problems and were you then able to go back to eating anything, or is food combining a good principle to follow for life? How long did you take to heal (guess I should have a Dave's website!).
When you eat mono - does this mean only from one food group or one type of food only (eg. all grains or just barley/just buckwheat etc).
Trinity did you heal from Crohns by food combining only? How long did it take and do you eat "normally" now or still try to combine?
Thanks!
Maree

Yes, It healed from food combining and mono-eating. I followed the plan I gave you and I got it from david klein's book, it took about 2 weeks of really listening to my body and taking it easy. And yes, I still try to combine properly. I also don not fill my tummy, I try to leave some room:)

My experience:
-I personally have eaten this way for many years...so it's a lifestyle change for me. Others may simple want to utilize it as a tool (like light fasting) to achieve a greater health end....and may then want to resume eating in a way that is right and healthy for THEM. Their call! :)

Thanks guys.
Well I ordered David's book yesterday, so am looking forward to getting that. Any tips on what I can do now while I'm waiting.... Just wondering about the mono eating - whether it means only one food group or only one food at all (eg. all grains in one meal or only barley/buckwheat etc in one meal). Also whether it's OK to add condiments - like nama shoyu, agave, apple cider vinegar, olive/coconut oil.
Any tips on how long to wait between eating? I've been getting into grazing through the day lately. I know that juices digest fastest and melons are pretty fast too. Any time frames?
Thanks again.
