hi guys-

I have just started the raw process abt 3 months ago on and off. I will have weeks of where the bathroom process is smooth and no problems. Then there are times like this week where nothing for 3-4 days!!! I am eating alot of fruits, vegtables and abt a gallon of water!
I hate this feeling, i feel sluggish, not hungry, moody due to the fact that I am consitpated...WHAT WORKS to alleviate this horible feeling? I have tried raisins, apples, prune juice, avocados, lemon water, apple cider vinegar..what else?

EYB- U said KEFIR worked for you...does the dairy in it make u constipated as well?

Any help is greatly appreciated..

Thanks

Try an enema, I'm pretty sure that will work.

Yes, if you're eating only raw fruits and vegetables and you're constipated, then I'd try an enema.

What are the symptoms you are calling 'constipation?"

RAW FLAX SEEDS!! Add some raw flax into your diet. If you have a dehydrator you can make flax crackers, or ground them up and put them in a salad! I had the same problem until I started adding raw flax seeds!

Dr. Schulze's intestinal forumula #1

http://www.herbdoc.com/store/Scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=13&h=1

In our house, a mad dash to the toilet has become known as having a Dr. Schulze moment.

I would up the flaxoil to 2 T's each day and also add ground flaxseeds to your diet daily. Works GREAT!

************************************************** ************************************************** *****************There is nothing wrong with "no poop for 2 days" as long as when you finally do go, it is not hard, not balls, but more like one long S=shaped tube that slides out without effort ::sorry to be so graphic:::**************************************** ************************************************** *****************

There is NO ONE PRESCRIPTION for everyone. That is really important. Do not compare yourself with others.

Just give your body time to adjust. I wouldn't take anything for it. Just eat raw.

If your poop is HARD and formed into little balls when you go, then drink more water, eat less apples and nuts, and more watery fruits. And if it is hard and formed into balls, you may want to do an enema to get things moving. But enemas, like all laxitives, can be addicting... so if it was me, I'd just wait and let nature take its course.

You can take the Dr. Schulze's #1 by itself. The #1 gets things moving, the #2 is a cleanse.

I feed my kids apples when they have diahhrea. Apples have pectin which is binding.

I'd stop the apples for a few days and eat some organic prunes. Soak them in water overnight. Start slow.. eat only 1 every couple of hours. They work WELL and you don't want to end up with diahhrea.

and be sure you're drinking a normal amount of water. Don't overdo water, just drink 4 to 8 glasses each day. You should be getting lots of water from your fruit/veggies.

Also.. try lying on your back on the floor and massaging your abdomen deeply. First one direction, then the other. Sometimes this will stimulate the action you need. Warm compresses, either hotwater bottle or castor oil packs are good. And OIL is good! Get some coconut oil and eat a couple of big ole spoonsfuls every day! It tastes great and will keep your insides lubed. ::grin:::

Don't worry.. you're gonna be fine!

I still am not convinced you're constipated at all.
Are your BMs HARD and like little BALLS?
Do you have trouble pushing them out when they do come or are you just straining in the hopes something will come out?

Do you FEEL like you have to have a BM but can't get it out.. like it's there but won't come out?

Or do you just THINK you SHOULD be having more?

I feel like they are there but not coming out..when they do come out they ae hard and a little and I have a bathroom run abt once every 2 days...
Do you think that is consitpation or something else?

Thanks again!

Personally I can't take Dr. Schulze's Intestinal Formulae. I have IBS which is mostly conquered with raw but the senna I believe is the item that causes me great plain throughout intestine. His clay formula does nothing for me at all either. I love slippery elm bark powder. It moves me! LOL!

Hard and little = constipated

cut out apples and grains

Eat ground flaxseed in your morning smoothie
Soak 6 dates and add them AND the soak water to your smoothie
or drink the soak water and add the dates

Eat lots of fresh sauerkraut. There are recipes on here if you search.

eat prunes and drink the soaking water. Again, not too many or you'll get stomach cramps. Just eat one every hour maybe 4 or 5 times a day to start.

Eat lots of green leafy vegetables
Drink water

Eat beets shredded with pears shredded with lemon on them
see how long from the time you eat the beets until your BM is beet red

or eat corn and see how long it takes to pass through

count hours, not days

and I found this online:

Here's a drink you can take in the afternoon to activate a bowel movement.

With a juicer, juice some tomatoes, carrots, and celery. By experimenting, you can discover the amount of each vegetable to use according to your taste. Mostly likely you will want equal amounts of tomatoes and carrots and you will want to add a few stalks of celery including the leaves.

Now, let's add a few more items to give your drink more pushing power. Put in a small amount of garlic, onion, and radish. While juicing your carrots, juice a small bunch of spinach or parsley.

Drink 1 to 2 cups in the morning and see the results soon after.

Let us know if it works! lol We'll put it on file!

Best thing for constipation is a spinach smoothie. Use a lot, and if possible drink water/juices afterwards, sipping till your next meal.

Best,

I would say the actual flaxseeds not just the oil. Either make them into crackers, or ground them up and put them in your salads.. me, once I made flax crackers and ate them every day I had no problem going!

I had this problem for a while on raw, and none of the above suggestions did it for me. What worked for me was daily green juice (16oz minimum) with celery, cucumber, kale, lemon & any other green leafies you have around. If your acid/alkaline base is off, it's hard to be regular. Also taking a good quality probiotic! I like Primal Defense.

I'm assuming you don't eat late at night. If i eat past 8pm my bowels will be unpredictable the next day.

Pears are supposed to have alot of fiber.

Freshly juiced apples does function as a diuretic in some people.

Seriously, slippery elm bark powder will give you a smooth move. Drink as a tea. It is gentle but gets the job done. I gave it to my dh after his anal abcess surgery.

I would like to try slippery elm bark powder, to help me regulate sometimes.
Could someone inform me on how to use it? Just drink it with water?
Thanks

A water fast usually makes people stop "going".
