I've recently discovered how much I can actually enjoy green smoothies!
I thought a thread of green smoothie recipe's was in order, as I know y'all probably have some fantastic creations to share.
Please share your favorite green smoothie recipe here, but please post semi-accurate ingredient amounts, instead of just telling us what you throw in your blender :) I, for one, thrive on clear instructions :)
What I made today:
2-3 cups spinach
2 Bananas
1/3 - 1/2 cup Blackberries
6 Ice cubes (about 1/2 cup)
1 tsp. Matcha Green Tea
It was amazing.
2 weeks ago I couldn't stand green smoothies, but I made a goal to have one every day, and keep adding greens little by little to build up my tolerance.
Now I can handle an almost 50/50 ratio of greens to fruit! Yayyyy
Can you tell that I'm proud of myself?
:D
One of my favorites from Victoria Boutenko:
3-4 apples
2-3 large kale leaves
1/2 lemon juiced
2 cups water
There's also one I want to try that I found on Elaina Love's website:
2 ripe pears, cored and chopped
1/2 bunch or 1 packed cup fresh parsley, chopped
Blend with enough water to make a smoothie consistency.

My staple is:
2 cups filtered water
1 teaspoon Maca powder
1 tablespoon hemp powder
1 banana
handful of spinach
and another fruit - lately it's been pears, but before that is was frozen pineapple, which made it like a creamcicle.
I call 'em my Shrek shakes!
Love 'em and they love me! :D

That actually sounds REALLY GOOD.
Pity I'm out of pineapple, and my maca hasn't arrived yet... :(
Soon! <3

Do you have Victoria Boutenko's book, "Green for Life"? Excellent book, filled with much info about GS's. I learned alot reading that.

Has anyone tried green smoothies with blueberries? If so, what do you think?
I am thinking of trying this because I hear how great blueberries are for preventing premature aging skin...

Oh yes! Excellent! Blueberries/banana/greens, you could even go wild and throw in an orange (peeled, of course).
Let your imagination run with this.
Get Victoria Boutenko's book, "Green for Life".

I have never had a green smoothie...I'm not brave enough to blitz spinach...this is going to be some new ground for me. Do the greens taste bitter?
AICgem

thats whats so good about a GS, you don't really taste the greens depending on what fruit you use and which greens. If it's too bitter add more fruit or agave. Spinach is good, not bitter (obviously some greens are more bitter by nature than others)
Experiment...you'll find something you love!!

Thanks AICgem...I'm gonna do it! I appreciate your know how.
I actually love spinach...I like lemony citrusy things and berries...so maybe I'll start there and play mad scientist. :)

I LOVE green smoothies...don't have any recipe other then I put in something different every time....usually apples will be the fruit, though I've used blueberries, pineapple, bananas, grapes...and any kind of green leafy veggie...I usually put in cayenne, lots of ginger root....
Maca??? I take maca every morning and it's one of those things I'm still waiting to get accustomed to...hahaha!!!..my hat goes off to those that put it in smoothies...some say it tastes like malt??? I'll be glad when I think that...hahaha!!!
Yea!!! for green smoothies...and yes, Green For Life is a wonderful book to read...

took me a while to get used to maca...now I sometimes use 1-2 Tbs in smoothies!

I LOVE the SMELL of maca in the bag (It smells like cookie dough, or brown sugar or SOMETHING sweet and yummy.), and the flavor is alright depending on what I put it in. Not amazing, but not bad enough to make me stop using it...it's just different.

Because my blender doesn't take to crushing ice so well, I have it sitting in the fridge to cool off a bit before I divulge.
I just made this on a whim, so let's see what happens.
1/4 cup goji berries
2 bananas
5-6 blackberries
2 kiwis
1 cup water
2 cups baby spinach
1 Tbsp agave nectar
From tasting it, it was delicious. I just can't wait til it's actually colder!! It's going to be a ton of smoothie... But it's got to last me a while...

My new favorite is:
1 banana
1 granny smith apple
2 large chunks of pineapple (I buy it, cut it up, and freeze the core for smoothies)
an orange (no peel, but the whole orange)
It's not too sweet, just the right amount of tang due to the granny smith apple...SO good!

U R right. Can't describe what the smell is, but it's a "tasty" smell. I love it!!! And the taste is different to. Earthy, sweet, can't describe that either...

My two favorites are...
2-3 bananas
2-3 handfuls green grapes
2 handfuls kale
1 1/2 c water
Blitz and enjoy! I don't like my smoothies cold, but I imagine you could sub ice for some of the water.
2 cups pineaplle chunks (or more)
2-3 pears
2 handfuls parsley
1/2 - 1 c water
This one is soooooo refreshing. I love the light, fresh taste of the parsley. The whole thing almost feels fizzy when you drink it. I know I will be having a lot of this one come summer.

My green smoothie today:

1 Handful of sprouted Alfalfa
½ Avocado
1 Handful of nuts (e.g. cashew, almonds, walnut, sesam etc.)

My WAY of prep:
1. Juice the kale, the lentils and the alfalfa
2. Put the mixer the avocado, the nuts, the honey, the maca powder, the guarana and the water and mix until it has almost the desired consistency.
3. Add the juice from 1. to it and mix a few seconds.

Our everyday recipe is one bunch of kale (yes an entire bunch!) juice of 1/2 grapefruit, juice of 1 orange, 1 pear and 1/2 bag frozen raspberries. I add a bit of water to thin...my kids (almost 3 and 4) beg for this. I have also used cherries, strawberries or blueberries instead of the raspberries...it's always tasty!

Do you freeze the bananas? It may avoid the need for adding ice!

Oh my, that does sound good! I don't like grapefruit on it's own, but I do like it mixed with other things (like something sweet, LOL), so this sound slike a great way to get some variety, and get some grapefruit in me. :)
Thanks for sharing!

as much dandelion greens as I can (generally about 12 cups, probably)
yummm...adding berries to this is delish as well.
Thank you for starting this thread. I have been wanting to try green smooties but didn't have any recipes for it. Now no more excuses. I have to get to the store for some greens. Probably after the weekend.

my new favorite green smoothie is:
(I'm on a grapefruit kick)
1 whole grapefruit, no skin
1 whole cucumber with skin
as much baby spinach as you desire
it is delicious, light and SO good, I don't know why this combo just WAKES up my taste buds... must like grapefruit though... and when I let my grandmother taste some (she is NOT raw at all) she said.... "tastes like cucumber to me. a little tart. But I may be able to acquire a taste"
hehe
another that I just made ( because I am saving my last cucumber for tomorrow's green smoothie...)
1 grapefruit
2 oz of blueberries
baby spinach to your likeing
a bit thicker than the one above but SO SO good. again, it is lighter. mmm!
