The other day I started to fast. Maybe I didn't get enough to drink, I'm not sure. It was about hour 18-20. I had the WORST stomach pain. It felt like my body was eating itself. I was practically curled over in pain. I was at work so I couldn't continue like that so I had to eat something for it to stop. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to combat this?

It might be your stomach cleaning itself out. It can be particularly difficult for first time fasters. It usually starts within 10-12 hours of not eating, and repeats on the same time frame. I hardly notice it anymore when I fast. I'm so used to it.

The only surefire way to combat it (and still fast) is to deal with emotional issues. The stomach is highly sensitive to fears and doubts. Moreso when it's empty.

I remember during the first two months of raw, saying to myself, "Thank goodness I have my mornings at home!" It was very difficult to leave the house. I still have runs to the bathroom, but no cramping anymore. The emotions around eating are HUGE. DRAGINVRY is absolutely right. Try to breathe through and feel. Open your heart to whatever you feel.

Hey there! My best wishes on your fasting journey! I'm on it, too! :D

I never really felt pangs but only had major headaches like I've never had before and eye aches. Other than that, just feeling really weak.

Please rest when you get a chance. Give your body a chance to cleanse. :o

Hey Dream, it sounds like an acid reaction. One good thing to try to do prior to fasting is to alkalize your system with fruits & vegs. Or, better yet, raw fruit & veg juices. Also, if you happen to drink coffee, try to cut down or abstain before fasting. Hope that helps.

Best of luck to you.

Don't be discouraged. :-{)

I have suffered with the same thing several times as I have vowed to do better and make it a few days or weeks and then all of a sudden the pain hits so severe after a meal or just for no reason at all and it seemed the only thing that stopped it for me was to go eat something bad for me for it to stop.....I haven't conquered it yet either.....actually I ended up in the emergency room a couple of months ago because the pain was so severe and had gone on for a couple of weeks and of course they couldn't find anything wrong......so I went back to SAD and just this week and trying it again.....
My sister has encountered some of the same issues but hers continues with the bad food too, her holistic doctor said she had a bacteria growth in her stomach called strep and put her on some herbs.....I haven't tried it but if you're interested I can get the names and the doses

Well, I didn't have to eat something bad to stop it. I just had a box of cherry tomatoes and that was enough. Usually when I fast it's my kidneys that have this severe pain, but not this time. I think I'm very toxic and backed up in my liver/kidneys. Hmmm....I found a massage therapist that'll help clear out my liver, lymph nodes (which have been huge for 2 years), and kidneys so maybe that'll help overall.

If it is the stomach cleaning itself, it might be a good idea to read a bit about that so you don´t need to feel worried. Here´s a good place:

Hey, dreamr.....

Fasting is serious business and not to be taken lightly, especially if you're water fasting only. I've done 3....21 days twice and 28 days once under supervision and over 3 years. It can get very grueling, and absolutely no work should be done. It's intended to be TOTAL fasting from everything...activities, TV, work, reading, exercise...it's complete rest. If you can't do that, then juicing would be a better alternative. Ask Fred Bischi, PhD. He's one of the MOST respected experts and professionals in the field.

Good luck,

Pat

I get stomach pains every now and again.. actually, one just passed about 20 minutes ago. I hate them.

I'm on day 6 of my fast (with 1 slip up, but I'm refusing to let that stop my roll)... I'm going until december 31st, so I'm sure there'll be lots more.
