Hello all
Here is my stupid question: Is it ok to drink hot water? Or is it considered not good for a raw diet?

I was wondering the same thing. It would seem like a good way to warm up.

Hi Michigan roman!
In fact I am drinking a lot of hot water in the office already, so I wonder if it's good or not. I hope the "specialists" will be able to tell us.

Well, water is technically cooked, it is hydrogen and oxygen burned, that is what makes water, so......
but in all seriousness to your question, I would say drinking hot water is not good, as anytime you eat or drink anything hot, it causes your body to go into shock, as you naturally would not find hot water in nature, although you might find a hot springs, I doubt if it is common.
Probably the same with really cold food too, it does shock your system, I drink luke warm water now, from a filter, although I used to chew tons of ice, and drink only ice water, now I drink all my water and tea luke warm, it's great that way, and hot or cold items seem strange to me.
I do occasionally eat warmed foods from the dehydrator, although not often, and I will eat some frozen chocolate mousse some times, but not often.

I had a laugh to myself today when I wondered if any raw fooders don't have hot showers because they would be exposing their bodies to "cooked" water....
then when I saw the title of this post I thought "...nah, couldn't be..." :D
I guess that would really be taking it to extremes....worth a laugh though.. :p

I've been raw for two years. Most cooked things I gave up naturally because they did not agree with me the longer I became raw but hot water is not one of them.
I drink hot or warm water sometimes, it doesn't have a bad effect on me. I live in a cold, drafty house and the warmth is just the thing I need on a cold, winter morning like today (20 degrees out, brrr) before the heat kicks in.

I have no problems with hot water when I feel like some herbal tea. I mean, you can take things too far can't you, and become all obsessive compulsive about your raw lifestyle if you're not careful, which defeats the purpose of having gone raw in the first place: to achieve freedom, in one way or another. But I always seem to make some tea when I'm quite tired, and I invariably fall asleep after I've poured the water into a cup. By the time I wake up and think 'didn't I have some herbal tea brewing?', the tea is lukewarm. So I tend to drink my tea tepid. Other than that, all I drink is room temperature bottled water

Funny thing with me is, I used to think I'd miss my hot things that I used to drink, like coffee, tea, etc...
But when it came down to it, I never actually drank them hot! :D
My husband used to tease me how it could take me 3 hours to drink a cup of coffee. I just can't take the scalding on my tongue. It had to be lukewarm! :o
I have lost my taste for hot things. I think that the idea is psychological that it truly "warms a person up". I enjoy water at room temp, and that suits me fine :D kind of how I used to have my coffee LOL

Thanks for your answers!
In fact later in teh day I remembered reading an article in a magasine about the importance of dreaking very hot water in the Aryuvedic medicine. Especially on mornings.
Of course we don't have to be too drastic but I was wondering if for a start, it was really a good idea to drink so much hot water per day...

There's nothing in water that is harmed by heating to 47 or even 100, so it's raw. But the warming of the body by hot drinks, as compared with food, is an illusion. Fat has 37 kJ/g; heating water from 0 to 100 (not counting melting or boiling) takes only 418 J/g (100 cal/g). So I just ate a frozen smoothie, and I'm shivering; but it will warm me up for hours.
Since you're in Maine, you're close to where dulse grows. Try some.

It's not raw, but if you like and and wish to continue to drink it, then go for it!
It depends how raw you want to be and which items you'll keep :)

I drink a couple of cups of hottish water each morning. It is the first thing in me each day. I have found it helps me warm up as I am always cold first thing in the am. Also get the bodily functions rolling easier for me which is a great help. Definetly takes the place of the cup of coffee I usually ran for. I dont know what life is in water that would be harmed by it though as for raw or cooked. I see it as neutral.

That answers my question. I am going raw. If I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it right.
At least, that's the plan.
Unfortunately, nuts are very costly, so if anything prohibits me, it will be price, most likely. In which case, I will do my best to ensure that it's as little as possible, and thus an indulgence will not be one of the things that I "cheat" on.

Personally, I never drink cold or boiled water. I don't even like the way cold or frozen foods feel in my stomach etc--that is why I don't refrigerate my fruits unless I really really really need to b/c of overstock like juice fasting. Even then, I will take what I need, the night before and place it in a dry, room temp place.

I hear ya Miss Linda... No fruits in the frige. That isn't how nature intended them.
(okay, okay, I freeze bananas so they are yummy in smoothies. :D )

You can have sun tea for your raw craving hot drink. The sun will work wonders as long as you have the Sun. It is acceptable at the wellness institutes.

I'm not a specialist... but I don't know, I mean, it's water. Water is good for you, it's necessary. I feel like it can be so easy to obsess about one's raw diet to a point that is unhealthy for the spirit and for relationships with others. If you enjoy hot water, drink it. And I don't know about its being unnatural... people have been eating and drinking hot and cold foods for thousands of years (freezing cold streams, fires, etc.) - don't we adapt? I mean, don't our systems adapt? I can understand not wanting to drink really cold water when your body is hot (that's dangerous) or drinking scalding drinks that numb and damage your nerve endings, but hot doesn't have to mean scalding.

Assuming you dont mean scalding water and you mean hot water, Your body is a hot 98.6 degrees inside and hot water is not a shock to something that is already hot. Cold water is. Your body has to work hard to heat that water up to 98.6 degrees. Please dont get silly and fanatic. :)
