HI

Ive not been posting on the board for a while as since becoming "raw" Ive had such big changes in my life and have gradually healed my body and for the first time in many years Ive just been out and about busy busy busy, although I do look in from time to time, now Ive a big problem and I figure that someone here may have the answers so here I am..... I have lupus and although many, if not all the symptoms have just faded away this last year one thing that seems to have gotten worse is the joint pain, I didnt notice it so much then this week it became unbarable, to the point that I cry a lot at night because it hurts so much and I cant sleep,
I have been a weight lifter for nigh on 20 years and I am wondering if this agrivates the joints, (I lift very heavy weights, and it seems my elbows are the worst effected) but more so I am wondering which foods would help, and if any agrivate it, I have found that raw food heals in an amazing way, and sometimes small ajustments help in a big way,
I have heard that some vegetables like tomato and eggplant agrivate the condition is that true? but as I already can't eat avacado and mushroom as Im alergic to them I dont want to cut out any other fruit or vegi if I can avoid it,
we have been having a cold snap here( Norfolk England) and its been snowing and I know that makes the pain worse, but Im hoping with a little advise from you guys I can get round this pain and get back to being happy and healthy,

thanks

Cactus, the thing that really helped my joint pain is lots and lots of green juice and try to stay away from the sweets, even fruit. Wheat grass would be great for you.

Green smoothy really helps with the joint pain. Sweets and all white starchy foods increase the joint pain and alcohol anything that will turn into alcohol in the body

I would recommend that you look into Sapoty Brooks' CaPNaK chart. He talks about balancing Calcium (Ca), Phosphorous (P), Sodium(Na), and Potassium (K) with varying affects on the physical and mental states. He has a book called eco-eating, but the chart alone would be useful to you. I believe you can order it from his website for $5 US (He's in Australia).

Hmm, ok I actually just looked at the chart myself and I don't see anything about joint stiffness or pain. But I do see that an overdose of phospherous or underdose of calcium results in arthritis and muscle cramping. Might this be similar to what you're experiencing? If so, the chart recommends you increase calcium foods (unhulled sesame seeds, collards, sum choy, mustrard greens, parsley) and avoid phospherous foods (hulled sesame seeds, carrot juice (diff from whole carrots), alphalpha sprouts, coconut, beer, gluten, oatmeal, passion fruit).

I'm not an expert. I'm new to raw foods, and new to his approach, so questions should be directed to him ( agoogle search for Sapoty Brooks ought to do it) but I thought maybe this could help a little...

Best of luck! Hope you find some relief soon!

-I am very sorry for your discomfort!

Opinion:

I would try eating foods whose enzymes contribute to the breakdown of excess proteins in the body:

1) Papaya
2) Pineapple

-You might also see if hot peppers (containing capscacin compounds assist you as well).

-Additionally, simpler (less combining) eating, light fasting, less joint-intensive exercise (and more power-walking), are regimes which might help you as well. What do you think?

Cactus,

There's a possiblity that you're undergoing detox from the joints right now too. I believe detox starts in the soft tissue then works its way through the body. The bones and joints, being harder, naturally would take longer to detox?

Also.. check your mattress. I had the strangest experience. I moved into this furnished apartment and last week my back was KILLING me all week long. I was crying because I could not straighten up at all.

I slept on the couch at work and woke up fine. Hello?

I went home, checked the new bed, and realized I could feel the springs inside the mattress and there is a sag where my back was. No wonder it hurt!

I've been sleeping on the couch ever since until I can afford/find a new FIRM mattress. I think as we grow older, we need a firmer mattress to support us during the night.

Just a thought.

I'd suggest lots of green foods and smoothies. I also take MSM for joint pain. It does wonders for me.

ok Ive typed this all out once and lost it so Im gunna have another go, and if somehow I end up saying the same thing twice forgive me :)

Buddylive and leeleelocs... green smoothies, at the moment I make juice each morning and have done for years, with carrot, celery apple and orange, so if I out the carrot and orange what should I add? I did try them totaly green and I hated the taste, what can I ate to make it more palatable? I dont think the wheat grass would work as I'm also a celiac, although I'm not sure if sprouted changes the whole gluten thing, I have thought about it and once sprouted wheat and it still made me sick,

as for the fruit, I guess I do eat a lot, maybe to much,

jessireebob... I will check out sapoty brooks, specaily as he is in Aus cos thats my home country :) (although Im in England)

DavidZaneMason.......... I love pinapple and do eat a lot but papaya makes me feel awfull I never worked out why, I have simplyfied my diet though, I used to do all the recipes etc, and now I find I eat things as they are mostly, I walk about 3 ks a day, but it is the heavy weights that I do and have done for most of my adult life, and the stress seems to be mostly on the elbows,

RowanC.. I hear you on the bed story, ours is way to soft, I insisted we get the one we have as it was so soft and comfy in the shop, my husband said it was way to soft but us woman like to be right :) now.. I regret it, but I have put boards under the matress, although not the most comfortable thing I can asure you,

Gwena.. can you tell me what MSM is, as Im open to all suggestions....

thanks so much for all the advise, I knew this was the place to come, I also believe in raw food 100% I am a living testament to how it cures and heals, I just have to tweak my diet (and maybe my excersie rountine) to sort out this pain so I will experiment with what you've all said, first job this moring will be to try make a green smoothie that I like.

take care and thanks.

Hello!

The weight lifting could be it. I really don't know, but I think that weight lifting was tweaking my lower back and leg. That was just my feeling. I have heard of a lot of people hurting or tweaking themselves with weights. I am going to start using my own body weight and see how that works!

Create a day of love and light!

Hi Cactus,
I suggest that you check out the book "Arthritis, Don't learn to Live With It. It shows how nightshades which include tobacco smoke (if you are exposed to it) eggplant, potatoes, peppers (any kind except the black pepper you use with salt) and tomatoes and for some sensitive people citrus fruit cause inflammation. In my case I have become much less sensitive since going raw. I used to even react severely to the citric acid that is used as a preservative in ALL canned drinks and even to vitamin C. I can now eat raw tomatoes, peppers and oranges or citrus in general without reacting. I am not 100% raw all the time but most of the time. I may have forgotten a nightshade plant or two but there should be a list if you google it. As someone here said you may also be detoxing, I went through a little of that with some weird pains and some I understood.

You might also check out any of Pete Egoscue's books as well as his website. He has been able to teach people who have had all kinds of incapacitating pain and/or injuries exercises that eliminate the defective way their muscles are being used either from unconcious habit or because of compensating for injuries in other areas and gets them to working the right way ending the pain.

Also there's another way to lift wieghts that may be easier on your joints and cause you to progress faster too. It is caused the Static Contraction method by Pete Sisco http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/sisco6.htm And yes there's a book on it too. This is just a quick lookup on that web address. I haven't checked out the site yet but I have read the book and used his system. It's awesome even for an old lady like me. Using his method my overweight diabetic husband has all the jocks at the gym we go to shocked at what he can do. :D Hope this helps.

Hi Xanadu,

thanks for the info, I have been experimenting with all the different things people have said here and I am already getting relief, I will check out the sites you mention, I had my suspitions about the night shade family as Id heard a little about that, although it makes life difficult when you have to eliminate different fruits and veg because, it leaves a lot less variety and Im already alergic to some to start with, the idea you mention about unconcious use of muscles wrongly etc ( Pete Egoscue) I know a little about but will look into it more, I bought a book about effortless living which talks about the very same thing and its amazing just what we do with out realizing it.

anyway thanks again

Hi Cactus,

Sorry to hear you are suffering. I just wanted to add that you should not avoid all fruits as a couple of people suggested. We are meant to eat a fruit based diet. Fruits are great for us!! I would suggest that you eat mono meals (one item per meal) for awhile to figure out if any of the foods you are currently eating might be contributing to the problem. I agree with the poster who suggested that it might be nightshades and/or citrus. I've heard that people with other immune-related disorders (fibromyalgia) are often sensitive to acid fruits and nightshades. Sometimes as our bodies are healing certain otherwise healthy foods might aggravate symptoms and it is best to avoid them and then try them again after a period of time ( a year or so) of really clean eating to see if we can tolerate them.

All the best,

Audrey

I've been eating raw foods for 60 days and I don't have any more joint pains. I use to complain about my fingers, wrist, knees and sometimes my feet would bother me too. I'm only 24 so Imagine how old I feel when I have joint pain all over my body. I could never dance for very long and I was constantly asking my boy friend to pull my wrist and fingers to get them to pop to elevate the pain. Actually I have posted many times here on the forum that my joint pains are gone. I may get the odd one in my right index when its cold out side and my mitts don't keep my hands warm enough but other than that I am pain free! I asked my spouse last night in the car "Have you noticed that I don't complain about my joint pain anymore?" and he said "what do you think made it go away?" And I said "I duno. Maybe eating more fruits and veggies"? lol. Raw Rocks! :D
