I've been lurking for a few weeks, and thought it was time to finally introduce myself. My name is Ericka and I'm from Southern Cali. I am really excited to jump into the world of raw, and am planning to start 100% on Feb. 1st.
On Jan 1st I did a 10 day fast, and really cleansed a lot of junk from my body, it gave me the clarity to return to a more natural way of living. I became vegetarian (ovo-lacto) when I was in college, and stayed that way for about 7 years. Albeit not the healthiest vegetarian. Lots of dairy, and packaged products. At that time, even though something was telling me to eat that way, I didn't know how, and didn't have anyone to mentor me. I lived in the midwest, and a small rural area.
Eventually, I made some big life changes and moved to California. My boyfriend ( now husband), was basically veggie, but ate fish as well. I began to eat fish too. For me it tasted amazing, having never had fresh fish ( always frozen and packaged). Even then only eating it maybe 3-4 times a week. I felt pretty good and maintained a healthy weight.
Then came my first pregnancy and incredible cravings for chicken. I just chalked it up as something my body needed, and things became a slippery slope dietwise from that point on. I became a posterchild for the SAD. It's far easier to grab fast food, and packaged meals with two children and a busy schedule ( or so my reasoning went). I go back and forth, eating horrible for periods ( gaining an excess of 20-30 pounds) , then trying to eat well ( losing 20-30 pounds).
Fastforward to today. Cleansing my body ( and clearing the mental fog from my brain has given me a new focus) During my cleanse, I was determined to go vegan, but as I researched I feel that raw is the way to go. I am sick of being tired, moody, being "irritated" with people. I know that at this point in time, this is the right path for me. I have been eating about 70% raw the past couple of weeks, and am moving into 100% starting on the 1st of the month. I am gathering my supplies as well as having organic fruits and veggies delivered to my door weekly ( it's so nice to live in California). I am also blessed to have several raw restaurants close by. I look forward to sharing this journey with all you positive people.
BTW: Got Alissa's book and video. Both are wonderful. I highly recommend the video ( for visual people). The energy that Alissa sends out, really makes one feel that this is the smartest, most natural decision, as well as being an easy lifestyle choice when your mind and heart are in the right place.
