anyone else get heartburn from the stuff?

I didn't used to, but...

I recently saw a gastroenterologist because of digestive issues. I did not have the typical heartburn and used to joke that I had a cast iron stomach because I could only recall maybe one or two episodes of heartburn in my entire life.

And yet, I was diagnosed with GERD and Barrett's Espophogus, a complication from years of uncontrolled GERD. I was told some people who have this never get the typical symptoms.

I was put on Prilosec which only made me more sick to my stomach and am now on Prevacid. I don't get sick from it. But I DO now have every symptom in the book if I eat something I'm not supposed to. Like chocolate. The reflux gets so bad it's painful. I know several other people who have GERD and they all said they were not supposed to have chocolate. My friend who has been hopitalized a few times with ulcers from her GERD has told me it is by far the worst thing you can eat if you have this problem because it causes the sphincter muscle to relax and allows the stomach acid to travel upward.

I had have been dignosed with GERD also but when I changed my diet to straight vegan my body completly healed itself. I can now eat lemons, oranges, fresh squezzed oj, tomatoes, peppers and everything wlse they told me to stay away from without any problems at all. I use to have to get a endoscpy and biobsy done each year to make sure the cells wern't cancerous. I havn't been back to a GI DR in over 3 years. :)
