I need recommendations for a "cheap" blender that will get me by for smoothies and recipes like soups or dressings that require a blender. I don't really have the money for something like a Vitamix right now so I'm looking in the 30-50 range probably. You know, something from a Target, Best Buy, Linens & Things, etc. Obviously the "smoothie maker" type would work for smoothies but would that work for other uses as well?

get an oster...they are less than 40 bucks and they are pretty sturdy as far as inexpensive blenders go...heck, the older osters (found at garage sales) are probably even better than what they are making these days!

I 2nd an Oster!
My mom still has hers...geez it must be 30years old or more.
Don't know if they still make them as well as they did though.

If you are still testing the Raw waters or don't want to spend $$$ right now check out your local thriftstores. Last week I saw two at our local thrift and one at Goodwill. I left kicking myself, since I bought a new cuisinart combo processer/ blender less than two months ago and the processer already broke. Pthhhht.

I agree, Oster makes decent blenders. I'm happy with mine although someday I plan to get a vitamix.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm not worried about buying it and then not using it since regardless of how I eat having a blender is useful :D
