View Full Version : 4 days raw! When will I detox? Any ideas?

I'm going on day four of.... I'll say 99% raw. What I am eating that is not raw is mainly cooked grains, sprouted grains and a bit of the M(eat) in the form of fresh fish because I easily go anemic. I'm getting new vitamins with iron though soon. I'm not a huge fan of M(eat) so hopefully with supplements and extra greens and dates (!) I can stay away from it.
ANYWAY... my question is.. how long til I can expect to detox?
Right now I feel FANTASTIC. Tons of energy.
In the mornings I have 1 Organic Raw Kombucha (my favorite...I'm so addicted!) then I juice a green lemonade (2 apples, romaine or kale, ginger, 1/2 lemon), then have been making a huge salad for lunch with homemade dressing (making the dressing is my fav. part). Then if I get hungry I snack on nuts or make another little salad. I think I 'm going to start making juice and eating fruit instead of more salad. Then for dinner (around 5pm) I make a gigantic green smoothie and I'm stuffed.
So far so good! My dehydrator should arive in the mail tomorrow (I moved and I didn't have room to pack it so I had to ship it) so I can make some crackers and I have a recipe for sourdough rosemary bread I'd like to try.
I'm going to do a banana search for Rawkinlocks cinnamon rolls today - they look DELICOIOUS!
Any ideas when I can expect the detox process to start?

Alissa says that without a 100% raw diet it can take weeks or months to do what can happen in days on 100% raw. I'm a newbie and have been getting things in my life/home set up and have not gone 100% myself yet. This is just what I've read in Alissa's book/seen in her dvd and observed on this board.
blessings and peace, Pam

That's a loaded question. Everyone is different. I had very little. Of course though I was Vegan for 2 years prior to going 100% raw 7 months ago and prior to that Vegetarian for 26 years.
You may feel very little, nausea, headache, etc. Or you may feel a lot. When and if it does hit, just relax, drink plenty of fluids and it will pass. The more you fight it, the longer and harder it will hit you. Try not to take any drugs for any symptoms. Your body is trying to cleanse, so anything besides raw you put in it, it will reject it.
Good luck!

Hello there,
Congratulations on going raw!!!!
Everyone's body is different, it just depends. Some people experience detox rather quickly and some don't have any detox symptoms for a couple of years and some people say that they never experienced any symptoms. Just trust that your body knows exactly what it is doing and have a great time being raw!! :-)
All the best,
Audrey

... and a bit of the M(eat) in the form of fresh fish because I easily go anemic.
I'm curious where you got the impression that fresh fish, loaded with mercury will supply your iron needs. Pills in a bottle wont either. Suggestion ~ Green smoothies (LOTS of information and recipes found on this board) will supply more than enough iron ~ especially if you include spinach ~ for your nutritional needs. You can also soak dried figs, prunes and black raisins overnight, drink the juice and eat the fruit. (be sure to check labels for "organic" and sulfites (which you really don't want in your dried fruit.)

Revell - juice the prunes, figs and raisens?
The fish I choose to eat is fresh caught and is fairly low in murcury (as apposed to tuna for example).
I'm working my way into 100% raw. I'm VERY close... like I said 99% right now.
I sometime throw a little wild rice into my salad and have some of my daughters sprouted bread. And, like I said a little fish.
I feel great right now and will wean myself off of that stuff as I go. But right now I feel better than ever and am going to do what I feel is right.
I slip into anemia so fast and I hate it. It feels SO crappy. So right now (I need my energy more than ever) I want to take every step to ensure that I get enough nutrients.
By the way ... last time I did 100% (for two weeks) I became anemic and quit. But this time around I am eating more fruits and lots of greens as well as taking supplements (I know some of you don't think you need these .. but I want to).
Today I have had:
Kombucha
1 kiwi and 1 apple
juice apple and 2 kiwis
5 or 6 cashews
Feeling Good!!!

No. As I said, soak them, then drink the soak juice and eat the fruit.

When I went 100% I started a detox within the first week.
When I still clung to my beliefs about some cooked being "needed", I didn't detox at all.
This board is for raw vegan lifestyles. You're certainly welcome to eat all the other things you feel you need, but you won't find many people here talking about eating fish.
Welcome!

You know when Alissa said the difference between 95% and 100% is an amazing difference I was skeptical...until I did it. It is a WORLD of difference!
Spinach and greens as Revvell mentioned and broccoli if your tummy likes it. Broccoli slaw is amazing and sweet. If you are missing meat, sprouted lentils have iron and make a nice substitute. (Like in MaRaws Happy Cow recipe.)
I'm glad you feel so good! Try transitioning to more raw when you feel ready...

Have you ever considered doing a parasite cleanse? That might be the root cause of your anemia.
Just a shot, but couldn't hurt to try one.

Revell - oh, right. I reread your post. Sorry to make you repeat yourself.
Today - day 1 of 100% raw. I'll give it a go - at least for the 30 days and see where I'm at.
this morning had Kombucha then for lunch nori rolls and pate on romain leaves for lunch (so good) my Dad said they looked professional.... :D
I'll make a green lemonade later
then maybe more rolls for dinner then some ice cream... mmmmm
Thanks for the ideas. I sure wasn't trying to get support for eating fish (ha! not here!) but I was just giving an outline of where I am/was. Thanks for responding reguardless.
I may think about a parasite cleanse. I always wonder... there was that one time I ate ceviche in Mexico  ooopppss....

Hello Revvell and all
I also started to eat raw 4 days ago, mainly fruits because this is the easiest to find here (Singapore) and it requires no preparation. I have absolutely no signs of detox, no changes at all. Still tired. But I have to say that I have no weight to loose and that I am not expecting a spectacular change. I just want to make sure I have no more melanoma in the future.
Take care!

It's an old, worn-out cliche, but everyone is different. It really is impossble to say when one should expect the detox process to begin. That's up to your body, and it will do things in its own good time. On a completely raw diet, I experienced a physical detox within the first few days. Most of my detox, however, manifested more on a spiritual and emotional level (lots of anger and irritability mixed with sadness, and these weird fever-like dreams). It may be that your detox has already begun, but it is not taking place on a physical level, orrrr it may do, only in way that you cannot readily notice at the moment. At any rate, rest assured, things will and are happening. You've been dishonouring the temple that is your body for a long time, and your body has become accustomed to this treatment. Give your body time, and it will learn to trust that you mean to treat it well from this point on, and that this isn't just a temporary phase.

Nectarine -
I have been feeling ultra emotional as of late. There is a little boy who went missing in my town a few days ago and I can't stop crying about it. It makes me so sad. I don't typically cry over everything like I have been lately... another example - I was watching grey's anatomy last night crying...
Maybe I am working through emotional detox right now!
Thanks for pointing that out...
I suppose (as lifeagift pointed out in another post) that with fish, grains, and sprouted breads I am not 99% raw - a lower number probably.
Howerver I'm on day 2 of 100% raw and feel great!
Green lemonade this morning
Rawkinlocks cinnamon roll
one strawberry crepe
(I have been so excited to make both of these recipes... I got a little carried away and made these... plus cookies, 2 different pates, salad dressing and sourdough rosmary garlic bread - at least I won't run out of options)

You're most welcome Cassidy :) Yes, during detox, the body will rid itself of anything it regards as no longer useful or as detrimental to your wellbeing, by bringing it to the fore, including emotions, memories, even thinking (and therefore, behaviour) patterns (at least this appears to be true so far in my case).
I must confess to crying also during my emotional/spiritual detox, although I'm normally not the type to shed tears easily. Thing is, I don't know what I was crying about. I'd just wake up in the middle of the night, and completely let go...you know, the type of crying where one's breathing becomes erratic, as if one is hyperventilating.
It was a powerfully cathartic release, and after a few days, I felt refreshed, and was the happiest and calmest I've ever been. I still feel this way. My dad really frowned on boys crying or showing any weakness when I was a kid, and I was forced to bottle stuff up from an early age in his presence, so perhaps there's a connection there. Hmmm.

Aha! You may be onto something... it is amazing how long and how dearly we hold onto negative emotions and memories. I'm glad you were able to release that one!

One thing I noticed when I was 100% (practically 110% LOL) for over 7 months was that detoxing is not necessarily a one-shot deal.
Some things take a while to exit the body. It's unrealistic to expect us to poison ourselves for 30 year and then within a week be completely free of it.
Steve on Raw Vegan Radio - http://www.rawveganradio.com/ mentioned in his interview with Lori Bain how his detox took several forms and he knew precisely what his body was detoxing (for instance he is an ex-smoker).
However, a squeaky clean 100% raw vegan diet is the most effective way, aside from a fast, to cleanse the body of all kinds of buildup in it. It's also quite tasty. Pass the pears.

You know what I've noticed since going raw? My reading rate has increased by leaps and bounds, to the extent that I would define what I do now as 'speed reading'. It's really strange, but when I read stuff now, I just sort of very quickly scan large blocks of writing, and get a general and accurate sense of the meaning without specifically looking at any of the individual component words or sentences. I just noticed this over the last 2 days or so. Anyway, really glad to hear you're feelin' good on this diet Cassidy. Keep it going, and you'll eventually unlock all kinds of wondrous potential that you didn't think you had in you
