View Full Version : Sun dried tomato question

I was wondering if one could make "sundried" tomatoes in the dehydrator?
Maybe brushing on some olive oil and spices when they are almost done.
Would they be as good as the ones in the store? Does anybody do this successfully?
It sure would be cheaper!

Petals, I make my own sun dried by brushing with olive oil and herbs as soon as I put them into to the dehydrator. They always come out good. You can also just DRY them without the oil, depending on how you think you will use them. I use the oil/herb ones for stuff like Italian marinara, and the plain ones for other stuff that doesn't use seasonings. I use up my REALLY ripe tomatoes this way, they don't go to waste!
PS. I start my deh. out alittle high (like 130) because tom. have alot of moisture. For only an hour, then turn it down to 110. Hope this helps.
