I understand that when you take up a raw food diet, your body will go through a detox event.

I am concerned because I am currently breastfeeding. I would like to take up alissa's raw food style of eating, but I don't want the toxins to dump in concentrated amounts into my breastmilk!

Does anyone know if this will be a problem? Or know how I could find out if it will be a problem?

We have quite a few threads (discussions) in our "Raising Raw Kids" forum for breastfeeding moms.

But the thing is this (and I KNOW some will differ with what I'm about to say) but the breasts are not a channel of elimination under normal circumstances. Organs and our bowels, yes...our breasts, no. If that were the case, then we'd have nasty, stinky stuff leaking from our breasts (even if not lactating) when we go through detox. When I was nursing my children, yes certain foods will affect the milk - if I ate spicy, they'd get upset tummies - if I ate junk foods, they had reactions in their skin. But eating a healthy diet of natural, raw foods will do nothing but give your baby excellent nutrition and a much better chance than most kids have.

Now, if you are concerned even after that, you can slowly transition by simply adding in more fresh fruits and veggies and eating other raw foods and gradually wean yourself from the cooked foods. This will slow down the detoxification process.

Best to you and baby!

Thank you very much. I was really tired when I posted this, I totally overlooked the kids forum, I apologize. (*reminds herself, 'no posting in the middle of the night while pumping after work'* :p )
