Before going Raw (about a year ago) I found out that I had Scoliosis and prior to that I used to run regularly. I was informed by my doctor that I could never run again. After going Raw though I am starting to feel that there is hope that I can run again. Any thoughts from Raw runners about this would be appreciated.

To what degree is your scoliosis? Have you seen a chiropractor regarding this? (If not I rec. you do)...Did you go raw before/after your diagnosis? Sorry so many questions, just don't agree you have to stop running with scoliosis as I know many people with it. My son has neurofibromatosis and that is why I am on the marathon team for the Children't Tumor Foundation....Scoliosis can be part of nf and I know that there are runners on our team that have NF and scoliosis that still are able to run.....Don't be limited in what you do by other's perceptions of your limitations....I was told I could never run again too after I broke my leg last year.....overcome, my friend! Run! If it hurts, stop. If it doesn't, run on!

There is an Instructor in Oregon, trained by Alissa, by the name of Tracy Fay. Look her up, and write to her. She has an amazing story right up your alley. Tracy will be your inspiration!

It is a slight dislocation between 4th and 5th vertebrae. I went Raw a little over a year of the diagnosis. I do plan to run but will start out slow. I used to be a avid runner in my younger days but have slowed down mostly because of moving back to the East Coast. I have seen a chiropractor yet and have played with the ideal. Thank you for your prompt reply.

My mom has scoliosis too. When she was 12 the doctor told her she could never do gymnasticsÂ’ again![she was a young gymnast] She simply told her self she would do it again![mind over matter]
Soon enough she was back on the beam doing flips...even now in her 40's she's very flexible and can do anything she wants. She's not totally raw though, but just a story for thought. I donÂ’t know how severe your's is but never give up!

I had two 60+-degree curves in my spine and had a spinal fusion eight years ago to correct them (although my spine is not 100% straight, even with the fusion). I have never had a problem with running or any sort of physical activity. Unless it causes you pain, I can't imagine there would be a problem with it...? I say go for it!

I'm with Jessica.
My friend has scoliosis (it is clearly visible and forms a hump, but I do not know the degree) and he also had surgery. He runs, waterskis, hikes, and I've seen him go up stairs faster than I've ever seen anyone move in my life. I wonder what it is about your scoliosis that made your doctor say that you could never run again.

While on the topic of scoliosis...I see so many of you know people with it...Do any of them have neurofibromatosis? Just wondering since that is what my son Josh has...

NFrawRUNNER -- no, my friend does not have neurofibromatosis. How old is Josh?
Tito -- I wonder if the doctor's caution is meant to prevent it from worsening? Both Jessica and my friend already had surgery to prevent further twisting. Sorry, my mind keeps working it like it's a puzzle.
