View Full Version : Is your blender hard to clean?

My blender is impossible to clean. Just when I think it's clean and smells nice I let it drip dry and I put it away. And its white too! I thought if I didn't see anything on the white it was squeaky clean. Well I went to use it for my nut milk and GAAAHHHHH.. It smells like death! And there is a ring of blackish discoloration at the very bottom beneath the blade. I don't know if all blenders are hard to clean or just mine?
I am thinking of tossing it and buying a new one with a wider bottom?

yikers!!! yucky! lol...do you wash it in the dishwasher? because a friend of mine had that same problem and i stuck it in the dishwasher and it came out fine.
With my vita mix ive never experienced that problem...maybe you want to invest in one of those. they are fab! :)

LOL Ya! I would love to own a Vitamix. :D
My blender was $30 lol. It's like a V shape so the bottom is the smallest part. It's hard to clean around the blade without getting cut but I always did a good job, until now LOL.
I don't own a dishwasher

trinity, can you take apart the bottom of your blender? most blenders do...like where u can take out that little ring, and blade and all.... ya know?

If you don't twist off the bottom, to wash the rubber ring, etc.. it can really start to stink... a bit dangerous too.. all that bacteria, etc.

No lol I tried that idea lmao. It doesn t come apart at all!
I guess that is why it was $30 :o

I put a tiny drop of dish soap in mine with a cup or so of water and pulse it a couple or 3 times and that generally does it. For what that's worth to you. :p

Can't help but chuckle over that visual. "Honey, would you smell the blender?"

I use a baby-bottle scrubber. It gets into all the nooks and crannies.

"eeeewwww! This smells terrible! Here, honey...smell!"
Why can I totally picture you doing this Trinity! ;)
Maybe vinegar and baking soda in there to fizz about a bit?

Hey Trinity,
are you SURE it doesn't come open at the bottom?
Years back the same thing happened to my el cheapie blender, I just couldn't seem to get it clean no matter how many times I pulsed soapy water through it.
Then a friend told me I should be able to twist off the bottom part, and that would come out, along with a rubber ring. I swore black and blue it didn't come off, till a male friend of mine (much stronger than me) managed to twist off the bottom!
And I was um... just a little embarrassed to say the least...
So get your hubby to try and twist off the bottom, most blenders (even cheapies) do that, for proper cleaning. You just might not be able to do it the first time as it might be on tightly. Do you have the manual? What is the make? Can you google for manual info?
cheers.

Okay I'll ask my muscle man hehehe. We checked once but we'll check again. It makes no sense that they would not make it easier to clean :)

I clean mine that way too. Every once in a while I'll take it all apart and rinse all the pieces. I actually haven't used my blender for so long I can't remember.

*Drum roll*
Ba da da DA!!........
It's CLEAN! Woot! I actually got the blender bottom to twist apart. I guess I was turning it the wrong way. It doesn't twist in the same direction as normal lids usually do. :o
It smells sooo good! I got the blade, rubber ring and bottom all scrubbed so well. Took me 15 min!!
Now I can get it dirty again hehe.. Hmmm what to make?! :D
Thanks everybody!

Hot dang, no more death smell!
I thought this might be the case. Glad to hear you didn't have to go out and purchase a new one.
Happy blending!
