So here's an introduction. I am a 31 year old female, no kids, just doggies. I live in western NY. I have struggled with my weight my whole life. I went vegetarian about a year ago and never looked back. I decided for ethical veiws not health, but I thought that if I got healthier, that would be an added benefit. Last year, I lost 40 lbs, (15 of that was after becoming vegetarian) through working out and eating less. As many of you know, being a vegetarian doesn't mean you only eat healthy stuff. Soda, chips, candy bars...those are all allowable and those I ate.

I had thought about becoming vegan, again for the animals, but I have a strong addiction to cheese...good cheese, ( I am going to check out some alternatives in the recipes I've found). But now, after researching raw vegans, it looks like I can do it.

I had heard about raw very little, and it sounded radical, but after looking deeper, yes it's a big change, but the benefits are unbelievable! I am going to do this!

My boyfriend thinks I'm going raw for a month, just to jump start my 'diet' again...little does he know that this is a lifestyle change for me (he's a die-hard carnivore and thinks it's silly...I say, "whatever"). When I read some other peoples' stories, I sat there with my mouth open, saying, "why didn't someone tell me about this???!!" I literally jumped up and down, danced a bit and got all giddy. It looks like I can reach my ultimate goal of getting down to around 135 lbs, (now I'm around 195 or so at 5' 2"...gained some of that initially lost 40). I never thought I could...I thought I'd settle for 150 ish.

Yey!! I am so excited! I start officially Feb. 1, right now I'm transitioning to eating more raw, less junk. Sorry this is so long-winded...but I wake up thinking about this stuff!

Glad to meet ya! This seems like a great place to find support! Give me all the advice you got!

Elizabeth,

I live in Jamestown, NY so I'm about 4 hours west of you on rt. 86. It's a small community and I wonder if anyone here eats raw.

I'm a big advicate of nutrition in dogs, in the work I do, so my dogs have been eating better than me! Now we'll be on equal standing.

This is so exciting! I can't wait to be 100%! I don't want to do it too fast but I've already been to the store and bought a bunch of fruits and veggies.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

Welcome Dog Lass! Sounds like you have got a good foundation with your attitude of no looking back. This is my fifth day. I feel much better than I did and I know I have lost weight already. Keep yourself motivated. Reading the journals is one way that has helped me to stay motivated.

You will Love it. I am so Thrilled for you, I also came from the Vegetarian World and it was a walk in the Garden. My detox was almost zero, you see I knew where the beef was, not in me......

You or should I say MYSELF......I let cheese go.......It CANNOT BE REPLACED. I Love MY World even more without it.

I wish you everything you need to Stay RAW....Welcome to MY World.......

Welcome! I learned to feed my dogs raw here! It took me a while to succomb as it went against everything I have learned. I have an old man dog who was losing his teeth, very fat, going blind, and silly headed. Feeding him raw has given him some of his youth back. It is absolutely unbelievable how much better he is doing. I had hoped that my husband would take note and give raw more serious consideration - Naaaa! He just thinks that he needs his steaks a little more rare! Just gotta keep trying!
