Hi all, I am trying to get back into running and exercising everyday. I ran track and swam in high school and until a couple of years ago I was still running 5 miles every day, religiously, along with weight and resistance training. I felt great and want to get back into it (and my old clothes!) Soooo, I am wondering whether anyone on the board would like to do an exercise commitment, just checking in every day and posting what you did. My personal goals for now are to jog at least 2 miles a day, and do either yoga or weight training in addition. I think it would make me more motivated and hopefully do the same for others!! Anyone in?

Count me in! I usually do two miles on my treadmill (walking, not jogging!) but, with some stuff going on this week, I skipped almost an entire week.

We have a running thread under "marathoners" where we are journaling our running. I am doing 6 miles 3x per week at this point and 3x per week of resistance training. I can post here if it will help encourage us to stay with it.
Peace.
Todd
I hate running, so I won't do any of that, but I am trying to work out more with strength building. I sorta stopped recently for a vacation and haven't been able to really do much more than a crappy workout since. Even before I began slacking off.
Stupid TV. :D
Count me in :)

Cool Todd.... 6 miles! That is very encouraging! I am checking in to say I did my 2 miles of jogging, some walking, and free weights today. Yay!

I'm commiting to working out (I take classes that are similar to Jazzercise but are pretty freakin tough sometimes!) 2 days a week. Mondays and Wednesday evenings are my workout days. If I go any other times in the week I count it as a bonus :)
Baby steps, ya know?:)

I'm in, if we all agree to check in every day. That'd be great.
I'm trying to get back into exercising daily since I stopped last summer. I got very sick in the early part of the winter but I healed myself with raw foods and now I want to build my strength up again. I've lost a ton of weight and am feeling somewhat fragile.
Basically, I want to do walking, yoga, pushups and ab work.

Count me in! I can't run for another week and a half, but I can walk. My goal is to walk three miles a day six days a week until I can run, then run five to six days a week.

Count me in too!
I exercise each day so this will hold me accountable to increasing what I am doing. I mix up my routine so each week I have a variety including cardio, weight training, Yoga, Tai Chi, and other aerobics classes. But walking is my favorite!
This is a great idea!

My first day--I didn't exercise! I was so freaked out about my foot arches trying to cramp up that I was afraid to do anything. But I think it's better today, and I plan to walk this evening, I'll just go slow enough to be aware of anything trying to cramp up.

I'll try and post too! I'm back at the gym every day (or try to be) and am starting a new weight lifting program.
Starting back to yoga classes this week too!

I made it to yoga class last night ... ouch. I haven't been keeping up with yoga for a long time now - so stretching isn't that easy anymore. We worked on abs ... oh my!
Was at the gym this morning at the appointed hour (4 am). Toned down my workout some -- did cardio, legs, and treadmill. (and steamroom, of course!). My muscles are a bit sore, but I feel great!

Hey, STAY RAW AND GET IN SHAPE!!
Peace.

I ran today 2 miles and it is getting easier. Now I am off to do some upper body weights. I can't wait till it gets nicer outside (no more snow!) :p

Checking in for today. . . you all are keeping me honest.
Didn't work out today. . . but tomorrow I have a yoga class at 10:30.
What are everybody's fitness goals? I don't need to lose any weight but I do want to feel stronger in general, and trim my middle.

I went to my Monday and Wednesay workouts. I love my aerobics class, it's soooo much fun. I feel sore today but in a good way. My hamstrings are killing me. I slept really well last night from being so exhausted. I am looking forward to my next workout! :)

Made it to gym again today ... cross trainer 10 mins; upper body workout (sneaked in a few leg exercises too); steam room.
Yesterday I loaded, unloaded and hauled 350 pounds of flooring materials plus several 2x4's to a jobsite ... does that count??? :)

I jogged a 1/2 mile today and did some fast walking with weights. And some upper body weight training and crunches. I was going to run more tonight but i am not feeling well due to detox (i hope)- so i am going to do a hot bath instead, and hopefully will feel better tomorrow morning :) You go guys!!!

Didn't get home from work until 8pm last night, so slept in today ... no gym for me. After all the working out, hauling stuff, and yoga, my body needed a rest!!!
Even with the sleep, I'm not feeling as energetic as other days tho ... so perhaps its wasn't the best choice. I'll be back working out tomorrow.

It's hard to know what to do when the body's tired. . . do you exercise to feed it more energy or do you give it a rest?
Anyhow, snow thwarted my going to yoga class two days in a row. Instead I shoveled for about 45 minutes (on Friday and Saturday) and it felt really, really good to be out in the sunshine doing that kind of work. Esp. since just earlier this winter I was too sick to leave the house.
Today I walked 1/2 an hour to church, then 1/2 hour back home afterwards. Everybody at church thinks I'm kind of nutty for walking and they always offer me a ride. I live in the kind of town where the only people out walking are kids who're too young to drive. This is weird to me bc I'm from NYC, where everybody walks all the time.

I am making a commitment to work out at least 30 minutes every day. I will be using tapes..mostly pilates-type programs and yoga..also some others..toning, maybe aerobics sometimes.
Summer is almost here  I have some work to do to ensure that I am feeling great enough to enjoy it fully.
I will be travelling this summer..some for pleasure, some for work...and the last thing I need is to feel heavy and flabby. :p Plus....I want to feel wonderful in cute summer clothes...so vain.. I know. ;)
It will be good to have a thread to "check-in" daily....A Great Idea! :D

I did a 15 minute pilates workout and then a 30 minute Lotte Burke method tape called "High Round Assets." Those girls have the peachiest little bums...I can see why..this tape is HARD!! I am going to feel it tomorrow. It has been probably a year since I did one of these tapes... :o
I am going to do the Lotte Burke "Butt" tape every other day, I think. That is certainly my biggest problem area...also my triceps.
I may add a 15-30 minute yoga session in the evenings....at least some days.
I have some weights...I may start using them again eventually..after I get used to doing the tapes regularly.
:D

BAD GIRL. I did nothing yesterday. For no other reason than laziness. Oh well, I will be back on the wagon tonight :)
Elizabeth-- Where do you get those tapes? Amazon.com? I wouldn't mind some help in the gluteal area for swimsuit season! :)
Elizabeth

I love the Lotte Burke tapes. They kill your butt. My hamstrings and buns are sore right now..but I love it. They remind me a bit of callanetics exercises..where you get into postion for exercising the "sweet spot" and then you just stay there.... OUCH :D
I think I found them on Amazon..but I am not sure. I bought a set of 4 or is it 5 tapes.. "High Round Assets" Hip-hugger abs"...and I can't remember the other names. And seeing the buns on the instructors is inspirational ..they look amazing. :)
I was supposed to workout this morning before I left for school....but I did not..and I don't get back home until about 10:00 p.m...so, I think I will not workout today. :o
Good luck finding a good Buns workout tape.... :D

Elizabeth-- I will have to check out those tapes.
Ran 3.25 miles today!! Yay!! Also, did weights for arms and back, and ab exercises. I feel great!!
If i am REALLY motivated I may do some lunges/squats tonight.... we shall see :)

I haven't been posting daily, but I have been doing my 2-mile treadmill walk every day. My cramping foot arches felt a little better every day, and, yesterday, they felt normal. I took the kids for a 1.2 mile walk a few days ago, too.
I know, I know, everyone tells me I should do more--upper body strength training, yoga, stretching--but I'm not gonna. Right now, the 40 minutes I'm on the treadmill is all the time I can take from my day, it's all that's do-able, and, rather than plan a complete, elaborate plan for cross-training and then getting discouraged and quitting the whole thing, I'm sticking to what's working for me and what I enjoy and can manage for this season of my life.

Just checking in. . . did 20 minutes on the treadmill Tuesday and then some ab work and pushups. Felt great, very energized and light. Yesterday I had a very bad headache and didn't want to move around much.
Today I went to yoga class and that was great too. My big challenge in the next two weeks is that I'll be at my parents' house and it's not so healthy there -- non-stop cigarette smoke, TV blaring from 7am to 11pm, meat, potato chips etc. I'm praying for the strength to stay raw during all that time.

>>I'm sticking to what's working for me and what I enjoy and can manage for this season of my life.<<
That's smart. A lot of people start out all gungho, overdo it and then get bored or injured. It's best to take it slow and just enjoy it. That way you will be consistent.

Its spring! Yaaaaaaa! I have been running regularly, but until the past week I had been cutting back on the resistance training alittle. Now it seems I my body is calling for more of it. So I have been incorporating pushups more in my workouts again.

How's everybody doing with their exercise programs?
I've been spending the past few days at my parents house which is "SAD-city." Barbecue chicken, shrimp and rice, cheese & crackers etc, cake, cookies. It's been hard esp. since I didn't bring all my raw gear/ingredients so I've basically been eating the same thing everyday: smoothies, nori wraps, salads. I'm thankful that I haven't given in to any of the food though and to prepare myself for the temptations I swore I would exercise everyday and I have.
So today I tried Bikram yoga. That is the kind of yoga where you do 26 postures in very high heat. That room was 98 degrees! At times I felt nauseous, at times I felt like I was going to faint. It's pretty intense and is very tortuous at times. However, after I came out of there my body felt totally cleansed, like I had just been through a deep massage and sauna. Really incredible. I held up in the heat a lot better than the other newcomers in the class though and I attribute that totally to being raw.

heya all,
new to the excercising postings - though i excercise about 6 1/2 days out of seven. i want to step it up. instead of just ya know goingto the gym and flimsying about. i want goals. i want results andi am determined to achieve them.
about 6 months ago i was a competitive cross country runner (in australia) and a string bean. now i am kind of a bean with pea pods bursting out and i will be running between 6 and 9 kilometers (don't know miles) each day from now on. I turn 20 in 2 days and want to stay at least looking that way for a while. tomorrow i am running 6 by 1kilometer intervals with a 2 minute walk between each. anyone up for a bit of butt-kicking??? go on i dare ya.

This thread seemed like it needed reviving, so I decided to post.
About 2 weeks ago, I injured my wrist in yoga class (my fault for over-extending myself) so I took a week or so off. I was proud of my attitude about not getting all pessimistic bc of the injury (as was my usual reaction) and I attribute this newfound positivity to going raw. So I've been doing a lot of walking, hiking through the woods (I live in the Catskills) and pushups, sit-ups and stuff.
I feel pretty awesome!
Oh yeah, I was feeling kind of weak last week for a few days. I think it was partly detox and partly not getting enuf protein. So I've been adding raw protein powder to my smoothies some morning and I definitely feel more energized.
This raw journey is amazing!
How's everyone else doing?

Went hiking 2 miles in the woods yesterday by the Hudson River.
Woke up this morning feeling like a cold is coming on. . . or maybe it's detox. So no yoga for me today. I will do a few stretches though througout the day as I practice (piano).
