Does anyone have information on the Lara Bars? Are they really all raw? I know a lot of companys say their products are raw, but have a different version of raw than we do.

There are more lara bar threads too...but this one was a nice, long, 3-page discussion that probably covered all the arguments to whether or not they are considered raw.

This is what the company says:
Dear Janelle,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate your interest in our products.
The ingredients we use in LÄRABAR are dehydrated below 118 degrees, which we consider to be raw. In addition, our ingredients are not heated to temperatures in excess of 118 degrees during production. The two exceptions are cashews, which are heat steamed to extract the nut from the fruit of the tree, and cocoa powder, which comes from a roasted bean. Also, the lemon juice in our Lemon Bar flavor is flash pasteurized for safety.
I hope this information is helpful! We appreciate your patronage!
Sincerely,
Heidi Swoboda

I've never has one, but I found a recipe on here for them. You could make your own, then you would know how raw the ingredients are.

Wondering if they can be made without nuts? How important are the nuts? Do they help hold it together or have a big impact on taste? My DD has been wanting one ever since we saw EPP's lovely post about her kids. She's allergic to nuts.

I think the nuts could be substituted with coconut, or oats or dried fruits just fine.

I've posted this on another thread, but Pure bars taste much better. They're substantially larger too, and are at the same price point.

Pure Bars are made in the town where I live and I've found them at the local HFS and at some Fair Trade stores.
The company will even ship to you :D

Thank you all very much for your response and information. I just started eating them and think they are a great treat. Close enough to raw for me. A good thing is, I haven't had a bad reaction to them at all. If I eat anything cooked, it hits me within few hours.
With warm regards,
Buddy

I found them a couple of weeks ago at Shaw's supermarkets. 10 for $10.
Couldn't beat that price. I love them for travel and snacking. Love the ginger the best. ;)
