I adore pineapple. Bought one last night and chopped it up this morning. I only had 2 slices and my tongue started to sting. I don't have any cuts on my tongue. Pineapple literally burns my tongue

Am I alone on this one? What can I do about it? :o

I looooooveeeeee this fruit :p

YES! It's so simple. I posted this before, but here goes again.
When you buy a pineapple, bring it home and store it out of the fridge green side down, in a basket or a bowl until it turns as yellow all over as it's going to get.
Then cut the green part off, turn cut side down into a bowl and place in the fridge at minimum overnight. I've had some in the fridge for three days. You figure the pinapple grows green side up. It's shipped green side up. You slide it, thinking green side up. Cutting off the green and then storing in fridge lets the acid and sugars travel throughout the entire pineapple.
Since doing this I have never had my tongue get that bite feeling.
A friend that lived in Hawaii told me about this.
It DOES work!
Also, invest in a pineapple corer. They are cool gadgets. Makes cutting the pineapple soooo easy.

*Raises hand..*

I just eat the pineapple core...and it doesn't seem to matter....haha
*nerdy*

I've never had a problem with the tongue/mouth burning, but my mom has, and she was told to soak the pineapple in a "brine".

It didn't work.

What does tipping it up side down do to it to make the fuzzies go away? I didnt see any pineapple questions in the banana search so I went ahead and asked.
I will remember this tip for next time! Thanks a lot :D

You figure when a pineapple grows, it grows green side up. When it's shipped, shipped green side up. In the store - yep, you guessed it - green side up. All that time the sugars and citric acid are concentrated OPPOSITE the green side. So...when you slice it and put it green side DOWN in the fridge for minimum overnight? All those sugars and citric acid are distributed throughout the pineapple. It really, really works, and you talk about sweet - WHOA! :D When I bring mine home from the co-op, I store then green side DOWN to start the process.

I saw an earlier post of yours regarding storing it upside down, so I did it. Yes, it works, and I also noticed that my pineapple lasted a lot longer. Yeah! :D

The core is where the enzymes are the most rich I am told by my health nut friend (hey! she's like me! And you! :p although she is a certified health coach too...)
Somewhere it reads that there has been an increase in the rate of cancer ever since we have been coring our fruits and not ingesting the whole of them!
So it's a bit chewy...it's good for ya!

I can not eat raw pineapple at all. If even a speck of it touches my lips, they break out in blisters. Ow! Oddly canned pineapple doesn't have this same effect on me and I do not test as allergic to it. However at the time I had the allergy test done I probably had not had any pineapple for at least 10 years, so that could be why I didn't test as allergic.
