Does anyone know where I could find wild rice for less expensive? I looked at the website of a little local health food store and it appears as though they have lundberg wild rice for like $5.60 for 8 oz.
Any ideas? I would love to try sprouted wild rice...I suddenly just really wanted it for some reason. Mmm and if I had dulse....sprouted wild rice tossed with dulse. mmmm. :)

Check this out. Seems pretty reasonable for a pound:

I've never seen wild rice for cheap. I bought a bag for 4.99 on sale and there is only 1 1/2 cups of rice.

Wehani rice:[weh-HAH-nee] Considered an aromatic rice, Wehani is a light clay-colored brown rice that splits slightly when cooked. It resembles cooked wild rice and has a fragrance akin to popcorn. Wehani, which is related to basmati rice, was developed at the famous rice-growing Lundberg Family Farms in Richvale, California.
So do you think this is wild???

How do you prepare wild rice. Don't you have to cook it?

No - sprouting it.

Oh okay. So I sprout it, then I can just eat it straight? Maybe mixed with some nori flakes? !!!!

You could, but I think it would taste better in a salad maybe, or even dehydrate it, then grind it and make something out of it. Dunno...I've never sprouted any yet.
There just isn't enough hours in the day, enough trays in my dehydrator or energy in my body to do ALL that I want to w/creating raw dishes! Dang burn it!!! :p

Yeah, I've never been one for doing anything elaborate with my food. I just wash it, chop it up, put it in a bowl, mix it up, and eat. So all this sprouting, juicing, even blending, business is very new to me.

Nope. It's on my top 5 things to buy soon list. It would be nice to expand my raw cuisine horizons :D

I hadn't been here that long at all to be able to see that. Yeah, I reckon I'll bump her book up to number 3 on my list, ahead of the dehydrator, since she probably has recipes in there that do not require its use.

Good question. I have a bag that I purchased but haven't tried it yet. It was so expensive and I'm afraid it will taste.... like chalk!
Anyone?

When I want some wild rice I will sprinkle it as is over salads or hummus. I love the crunch. Also if I want them soft, I soak them for 1 hour until the split open like popcorn :D

I would imagine too once you've "sprouted" it the it could be soaked in some Nama Shoyu for a bit for some flavor besides chalk.

I'll give this one a try, tah. Hopefully it won't end up tasting like I just ran my tongue up and down a teacher's blackboard :D
