Hi!

I was so tickled last night about this so I just have to share.

We have a beautiful Harlequin Great Dane. She is a little over 1 and has been on the typical dog diet. Yesterday as I was making supper for my family my son spilled some of my Brazil nuts on the floor. I told him to pick them up and throw them away since they were dirty. He insisted that Pepper (our dog) wanted them, and proceeded to stick them in her face. I didn't think she would eat them, so I told him to leave the dog alone. Well Pepper sniffed them quite a bit and then she started eating them! She ate all 6 of them. I was so shocked.

Later I was making some "noodles" with my spirooli out of parsnips. Well I had the part that is left over when you do it and my dog was just standing there so I offered it to her. She crunched it down! She just stood there waiting to see what I would give her next! It was so funny. Then I gave her the leftover carrot from making the noodles and she gobbeled that down too! I've never seen a dog eat carrots, parsnips and brazil nuts before. It was so funny! She really liked it so I kept feeding her the leftover carrot pieces.

Anyways I got a big kick out of this and thought you guys might too. I certainly can not afford to feed her all raw, but I can give some scrap stuff as supplements to her normal diet.

Awwww, I bet Pepper is beautiful!
I have two little mini Dachshunds and they too love my "leftovers" few that there are! They know a good thing!!! ;)

It's a good job your dog hasn't developed a taste for raw meat, or she might start giving you funny looks. It has happened before

My girl-dog Meg is crazy about brazil nuts. Whenever I'm eating them she comes and steals them out of my hand. I manage to eat 1 for every 2 she eats! If a packet is left within reach she will take the whole lot.

Her sister Tess likes them too but prefers pistachios. If I try to eat them in front of them I will be sat on, pawed, clawed, punched, barked at. It takes me a while to shell one so I don't manage to eat any - by the time I've shelled one they've finished theirs.
Tess will steal whole packets but fortunately she can't shell them.
But Meg can! She'll pick one up, crack it in her mouth, spit it out, then eat just the nut.

Meg also asks for and likes medjool dates, raisins and sultanas.

They usually don't like our raw recipes (thank goodness!!!!) but recently I made sandwiches with fake turkey, cranberry sauce and onion bread. Meg asked for some and I offered it to her thinking she would smell it then not want it. But she took the whole sandwich out of my hand and ate it all! Then asked for my other one. Tess went and begged for my mothers.

When I made the Pure Food and Wine Lasagna, Tess started eating my mother's from her plate (it was within reach because they usually don't want raw meals), and when it was taken away from her she barked and begged for it, quite forcefully for an hour until it was taken away.

They also beg for any raw chocolate dessert and the smell of Shazzie's chocolate bars drives them wild.

Oh and Meg also started eating devilled-egg-spread-salad off a plate (again it was within reach because they're usually not interested in raw meals) and stole a stick of celery covered in the spread, then proceeded to lick it all off. (Leaving the celery - they hate vegetables)

My Lhasa Apso loves all cooked vegetables especially carrots, and he's always been crazy about raw carrots and raw potatoes, they're his favourite food. He also likes raw apples but he won't eat any of our raw meals.

Most dogs I've met have liked raw apples but won't eat anything else.

Our yorkie was mad about raw peppers, and would eat virtually any raw fruit or veg especially grapes and lettuce. He even ate banana.

Anyway I'm so glad somebody else has a brazil nut loving dog. It is funny to watch them eat nuts and veg. Thanks for sharing.

My cat Chloe loves raw fruits, especially pears. Whenever i'm eating one, she'll come up to me and "beg" for a piece. So cute! I haven't tried giving any of my cats veggies, maybe I will to see if they like them! lol
