It has been 7 days since I started eating raw. Before that I fasted a total of 7days to detox.

Today I woke up, went on a bike ride for about an hour. About half way through I had so much mucus that I could not breath. I stopped and managed to clear myself and rode home. When I got home there was even more mucus, to the point I was gagging. Is this a part of the process. I am not sick.

It CAN be. Drink plenty of clear fluids - and avoid foods that you have determined to cause excess mucus in your system. You should be fine.

Tony - dude - r u sitting down? It IS detox! I guarantee it. I'm a biker too. Before going raw, I always got "snotty" - and it wasn't my disposition either ;) I've been raw almost seven months now.
Twice now since going raw I have gone through a detox which starts out me sneezing, and a lot of post nasal drip - sorry folks, but that's how it is. Both times it has happened in the evening. I go to bed with a tissue box next to me, feeling like I've gotten a nasty cold, wake up and it's over.
Don't swallow, or at least try not to swallow any of that. It IS your body detoxing. Getting rid of crap.
Hey! I've become quite the "spitter" when riding. I'm proud of myself! I had to learn quick as a few times it's landed on my jersey or my helmet even!
You will experience a lot of weird detox things.
Do a banana search for a thread about a guy after 3 years raw had a horrific detox experience.
How old are you (don't post, but say to yourself)? How long have you eaten SAD? And it's been, what? Seven days or more raw? Give it just a tad more time.
Your body is doing what it's supposed to be doing. Detoxing...
Have fun with it.
Have some spitting contests! EWWW!!!! :D

Man Margaret,

You sound like my kinda girl. Are you married? (lol). Thanks for the info. I am happy to say though that I have lost 8 pounds this week.

Yup, sounds like it is DETOX major! The mucous is encapsulizing toxins and pushing them out. That's a GREAT sign!

By the way... your photo is a bit scary! Is that really what detox does to you? :::laughing:::::

This is entirely normal. This is simply a cleansing process, tales from the crypt... your body tellin' on ya for all you done to it. lol

Likewise for us all. One time we bought a big, yummy box and oranges and a box of apples from Costco. I fasted on these for 2 days, having been freshly inspired by the wonderful testimony of a fruitarian. Man did I pay!! All the sinus cavities in my head filled all up! It was plug city. It was like they were singin' "Cry Me A River!" I was at work and ended up calling in sick the next day.

Lesson learned:

Do not underestimate the power of fruit!

If you do, it will throw you off! Go gradual.

Detoxing is like war. It's re-taking ground that was lost to toxins. It's like advancing, occasionally retreating, only to advance again into territory that is rightfully yours.

Keep on!

Tony - dahlink! The name's not Margaret! Hahahaha! That's just a quote from her. And, the answer is no! Ex couldn't stand that I could spit further and better then him! HAHAHA!!!! Hey! It takes a special kinda gal that can spit INTO the wind and not get hit!
That is very cool regarding your weight loss. WONDERFUL!
Did you really think your 7 day fast was gonna do the trick? Not! Sorry, but how many years have you not eaten well? And um, 7 days? Dude! I don't think so.
What kind of biking do you do? Road? Mountain? I do road biking. I'm gearing up for a bike ride this June. 100 miles on a Saturday and then 50 on the next day - Sunday. I'm excited. I haven't done this for a few years and now that I'm raw, thinner, more energetic, spitting like there's no tomorrow! WHOA! I'm ready!
Seriously, keep up the good work. You are doing fabulous. You will be one of Alissa's success stories, I just know it!
Keep coming to the forum and post. I am really interested in your success. Don't ask me how, but I just feel that you are gonna transform into this beautiful, healthy, vibrant person.

Detox can be ugly, or some don't experience hardly any. I, fortunately, was one of the latter. However, I was Vegan for 2 years prior to raw and before that Vegetarian for 26, so....but I've had a few snotty episodes with raw. It just depends. Lucikily my system isn't getting rid of any meat products. It is however trying to get rid of years of tofu and soy crap.
Hang in there buddy! You WILL do this. I just KNOW it!
I'm so exicited for you!!!
AND, when you are transformed into that wonderful creature that is inside of you just waiting to blossom - I'll race 'ya!!! And if you are chicken **** to do that, I'll have a spittin' contest with 'ya!!!
:D

I look forward to the race and the spitting contest. I usually just ride around town (road). I haven't done it in about 2 months so today was a little painful.

I did know that the detox would continue. I just didn't know it was gonna be so nasty. :o

Veganforlife - how the heck do you do 100 miles in one day. That is amazing!! I wish my knees could take 5 miles on the old stationary bike  Just curious as to how you do something so amazing like that???

We-ll...considering I was about 40 pounds heavier (I'm only 5'2") and had a dead, yep, DEAD thyroid, I honestly don't know. I know how I will do it this year - RAW power! It's a charity ride - for MS. So...knowing I was riding to help the poor souls that can't even walk without a cane or wheelchair - THAT kept me going.
Plus - you need a bike that fits you proper. One year I blew out one of my knees the first 40 miles AND I was riding w/my son - the first time we ever rode together. I had taken my bike to my local bike shop to have it checked and I believe my bike doc tweeked my seat a bit. All it takes is moving it a hair to throw you off. The next day my son lowered my seat after we both thought, hmmmm, maybe that's the problem and I did 62!!!
Plus the terrain is flat - that helps.
Nothing like the sound of a road bike's tires going, going, and going. I love it! :D

Good for you! You just keep going and going - raw power! BTW - if you don't mind me asking - how did you fix the 'dead' thyroid - an issue for me too right now along with Fibromyalgia. Thanks.

Well, going raw fixed it. I go back to my thyroid specialist on the 24th and I know he's gonna be scratching his head again, as he either lowers or totally takes me off the meds. I was hypOthyroid six years ago. Many, many trials of up and down on the meds. Now I am hypERthyroid. I'd bet a body part that he's just reading the meds. I don't "feel" hyperthyroid. I mean I sleep well, I'm energetic but not bouncing off the walls (although some would argue about this).
Going raw also cured my migraines.
I'm tellin 'ya. It's good stuff!!!

I went through the same things when I first started taking wheatgrass, although not to the point where I found it hard to breathe. I'd get up and go get rid of it, and by the time I had sat down again, there was more to get rid of
