Hi Again,

In the event you haven't noticed, I'm new here! :) and have lots of questions, comments and have to touch and feel everything I come in contact with! (LOL) :)

I made the freezer cookies for tonight. I found a receipe and thought it looked great! ( raisins soaked in water, banannas, seseame seeds, and walnuts. Mixed in the food processor, spooned on to a plate and in the freezer now. Ok.. so after I made them, I licked the spoon to have a taste and OH MY GOSH! :) It was delicious.. So here's the problem.... Although it is raw and healthy, it is very fattening with the nuts added. I could eat the whole plate in one sitting if I am not careful. Not sure if I can make this again, or maybe I need to modify the receipe and substitue the nuts with something else ( anyone have any suggestions?)..

I know raw does not always mean low fat. My goal is to remain raw ( a day at a time), LOSE WEIGHT, re-gain clarity and treat my body the best I can.

Does anyone else ever find that some of the recipes "might" trigger them into overeating, and (gasp!) gain weight?

Ask away! That's how you will learn. Plus you've taken the first - BIGGEST step. You are here, asking ?'s.
I too thought of that when I first started eating raw. Nuts have a good fat for us, as does avocados. Vary your food intake. Green smoothies. They help fill you up.

welcome :)

one thing youll find is that should you eat a lot of nuts one day, or for a few days, or even for a whole week, your bodys cravings will adjust and suddenly..you just wont feel like anything nutty for awhile. try to focus on the raw aspect, as opposed to the bits and pieces of calories and fats and carbs..etc. restriction isnt a part of this lifestyle..a healthy mindset is! :) so eat that cake or cookie or whatever it is (raw) and enjoy it..if you feel good physically after eating it, then you know its a good food for you personally. some could not handle eating a ton of nuts at once, some could! it depends on how your body reacts. weight GAIN is most definitely one of the last things worried about on this diet..usually we (raw vegans collectively..and now you included :p ) occupy ourselves with the deeper questions in life: vitamix blender, or k-tec blender? :D

Beautifully and well said!!

YES...please, allow your body to adjust to eating raw first and foremost...the weight WILL come off eventually - it happens at different rates for everyone - but try and focus on staying raw for now and overtime, as Eatyourbroccoli said, you will automatically begin to want less nuts or none at all! I go through those spurts too...at one point I may seem to be craving nuts or nut-based things and eating a lot of them and then all of a sudden, the desire for 'em just shuts down and I begin craving fruit! I eat a lot of fruit and then I begin craving salads and greens! It's miraculous how our bodies just "know" when we allow ourselves to get to that point.

EYB...LMBO. :D ..But seriously...that is the way to look at this.

First..I would recommend getting Alissa's Book/DVD...All your questions will be answered. Second..Have fun with this new lifestyle/journey..This is NOT a *diet* like any other.

Re-train your mind to not think in terms of calories/fat-etc...I know..the media throws all this info out to you-but guess what-those other diets are a Multi-billion $ industry with people going back & forth. Once you really try Raw...you will see the difference.

Have fun & enjoy. :)

Use the Banana up top to search the site..Also..go through & READ -READ -READ all the previous posts. This new journey is something that is fun but reading & learning is a part of it as well.

Thanks Ladies! I appreciate the feedback. Really good suggestions!

I try and not use the word "diet" in my vocabulary anymore. I like to think of it as my plan of eating----I also think eating "raw" is very forward thinking, not to mention **** cool! :) I mean, seriously, I feel like I have been plucked out of a sea of a million people and given this amazing gift of becoming raw. I'm really very lucky--also very lucky to join such a positive group of people with a very healthy common goal! That's right.... It's all about getting and keeping it "RAW"! :) :) :)

My g/f will be home in an hour and what a dinner I have planned for her! :D
I made avacodo/tomatoe/lime/ginger lettuce wraps ( I had these for lunch-- she will love them) w/ orange, bananna green smoothies. She probably won't go for the green smoothie, but I keep telling her how healthy it is for us to both just commit to doing it together. Even if she can't go all the way raw with me, it's better than not working towards it. :).. what do they say, plant the seed and allow the seasons to come and go.

Chow!

See? I keep telling everyone we have all been put here (on this RFT forum) for a reason. There are no coincidences in life...

I have learned to limit my nut intake as well. I am the type of person who would eat an entire raw pie in 1 day. I would have 1-2 slices for breakfast, 2 more for lunch, 1 for a snack before dinner and 1-2 slices before bed.. It's awful lol now I just eat fruit :D

Two 500g bags of raw cashews, half a bag of sunflower seeds, and half a packet of raw almonds in one sitting here while reading or watching a film. I metabolise food at a scary rate though so it's not putting on weight I'm worried about. Cashews create acidity in the body which isn't a good thing in excess. It's just the consistency and taste of cashews in the mouth that I can't seem to resist once I buy them. It reminds me of the taste of porridge with soya milk, and a little drizzle of honey
