So I can't afford a dehydrator but my roommate has a toaster oven which adjusts the temp a lil below 150 I think it is. Can I use that as a dehydrator? Or am I just outta luck?

No sweetie, that wouldn't be the same - sorry.

See, a dehydrator is more than just low temps...there's also a fan involved and a little below 150 still wouldn't be considered raw it'd be cooked.

If you can afford a used dehydrator, try looking on E-Bay.
I saw a nice excalibur one there for only $50.00... A lot
more affordable than brand new.

Cheers and good luck with your journey!

Shucks.. and thanks at the same time. Oh well. Some how I'll just have to get by until I come up with some money (can't really afford the $50 though that is an appitizing price compared to what I have seen).

Thanks you two!

I got a cheapo with $39 online.

But try craigslist!

I know a lot of people start out with the Nescoe brand from Wal-mart-something like $35...I would start with that...

Just make sure it's the one with the temp. control! I started out with that model as well and it works great! Granted, you can't remove trays to make more room, but they have accessories to allow a similar effect - and it's round with the hole inthe middle so for "some" (not all or even most) things it's kinda akward but all in all, if you can...that is the one I'd go with too for starters!

Thank you everyone! I appreciate it a lot. I'll see what I can do. :D

Craigs list is a very good idea too.

You can also try Freecycle group. They are on Yahoo. Do a banana search. Someone posted something about them on here. I'm not sure who it was but the put in a link and it was only a few days ago. Freecycle is pretty cool. You can post an ad asking for what you want and someone may have it to give away. You can also post to give something to someone else too. It isn't a requirement though.

BTW this is the link. http://www.freecycle.org/ I'm not sur it will link but you could copy and paste.

Good luck!!!!

Check craigslist and goodwill shops, yard sales, freecycle, and this type of place often.. once a week...

Find a photo of a new excalibur online. Print it out.
Put it on your wall where you can look at it each night before you sleep.
See yourself using it.

It will come to you! I promise! :D

Hi SnowNoir,
I do have a well used, extra, round Ronco 5 tray dehydrator that I can just give you. It'd kinda messy and no temp control, but it was passed on to me when I first went raw and it works/worked great!! My email is Trinity830@aol.com if you're interested:)
