Hello all,
I started making smoothies during my gradual transistion to being raw. I read that you should drink them right away because of the lost of nutrients. But how long is my smoothie good for. I made a quart at 8am and its now 12pm(afternoon), is my smoothie still good? Someone let me know.
Ingredients of smoothie
OJ
2 handful spinich
1/2 head broccoli
2 pears
1 apple
1 banana
Thanks for the info,
Dara

I'm not sure how long it's good for, but I know when I drink mine too slowly, it starts to get kind of watered down, where I need to mix it up.

Yes, it is IF it's been kept in a closed container and in the fridge.

Sometimes I will make smoothie and if it's too much, I'll refrigerate it and drink the next day (sometimes have to shake it up)...I'm sure the fresher, the better...but we do what we have to do!
I would say it's still good and if there is a way to refrigerate at work or put in a thermos that will keep it cold...even better!

Ya all are makin' me wanna have a smoothie!
One thing to always keep in mind. As I understand it, the exposure to oxygen tends to speed up fermentation. So, if you have a quart's worth of smoothie, fill up a quart-sized container as opposed to a half gallon container with air on top. It should last longer. Hope that helps.

I keep my smoothies in a quart sealed container, there is ice so its still pretty cold. I just didnt want to drink some of it and get sick, I really dont need that at work. Everyone here already says it looks gross!
Thanks

I think the "gross" is in the eye of the beholder. :-)

I have kept mine for 24 hours without any problems. If you use rejuvelac as a base you can keep longer because it contains natural vit. E which prevents oxygenation
