Hi - I'm a 33 yo mom of 4 kids. I recently became vegetarian for New Year's. i have never liked eating meat or preparing it. My family eats veg meals with me at dinner, but I allow them to eat what they want outside of the home.

I am in generally good health, although after going veg for 2 weeks, I have been getting headaches and nausea quite a bit. Is this normal?

I have always been interested in doing a raw food diet. It just makes sense to me. Cancer runs rampant in my family - all types. I do NOT want this happening to me when I hit my 50's.

One question I have is - Is this diet expensive? We are on an extremely low budget. What kinds of kitchen appliances do I need to buy? All I have is a blender and a mini-food processor.

I only have about 10-15 pounds to lose. I just tend to snack too much.

Welcome Home:

Here are a few suggestions:

1. Buy fruit and veggies in season
2. Blender and Food processor are helpful if you are going to make recipes
3. Alissa's cook book is excellent and the recipes section of this board provides wonderful things to do and you can judge from there
4. Join freecycle because sometimes people will have appliances useful to give away.
5. Try to get a buddy in your town who may coop with you.

Hope this helps

Juicing raw fruits and veggies is so good for your health.. I am not sure if you're familiar with Jay Kordich AKA: the Juiceman... but he had cancer as a college-age football player and recovered due to juicing! His books and tapes are excellent.... as are Jason Vales... They have helped me so much and have lots of great tips for when you are just starting out... Kids also LOVE the apple/carrot juice (so do my puppies haha)
Just trying to share what I know...hopefully it helps...good luck and hope to talk to you soon:)
