I've heard of people that gain a good deal amount of weight on raw. They lose it later on, and typically quickly. Why? I have started to increase steadily for the last few days. What is it that's going on in my body? Food isn't necessarily the culprit here. I switched my dietary focus. Are there physical changes that go on in the body that cause a body to become heavier. Cleansing of the bowels? Would a body retain water for any cleansing/beneficial reason? What's going on? Does raw promote faster muscle growth. I want some answers, because I'm feeling a little discouraged. I don't want to stop, but I need some reassurance, and some possible scenarios.

Well, the first place to look would be at what you are eating? How much nut butter, nuts, avos, and other high-fat foods are you eating?

I know that nuts and nut butters in particular are one of those raw foods that if some people eat too much of, they will stop losing weight or start to gain.

Right. Initially, your body MAY react defensively by sending signals to 'hold onto' calories, water, fats...whatever. Accept that. Monitor your calorie intake and make sure you are eating simple and calorie low/nutrient dense/filling healthy foods. Couple that with planned exercise for a purpose....and you should be on your way to lifetime weight loss. I'm sure the wonderful folks on this board (including myself) will have some wonderful experiences and tips for you as you progress. Do what you know is right, and don't just rely on quick success as an indicator of whether you are doing the right thing. Give it some time. Just my advice / opinion.

-Power & Success to you.

I think most lose ? I lost three initially then put it back on plus 3 more !
I think the closer you are to an ideal weight and if you were on a restrictive diet prior to Raw (as I was) then the freedom to eat anything Raw, can actually increase the calories in the diet and result in gain.

I know that I went from a LOW FAT diet and LOW CAL diet to a Raw diet with nuts, fats that I did not allow myself before Raw. I overate the nuts at first and was taking in too many calories for my Metabolism. Now after a year being Raw I am back to the lower fat diet, eating more fruit, and the pounds melted off.

Everyone has a dif experience with this .
