View Full Version : Liquid Fast starting Monday (3-7), anyone like to join me??

Hello!

I am going to start a liquid fast on Monday, including fruit and veggie juices and blended drinks and soups. Just liquids and no solid food!

I am feeling the need for some cleansing and my TMJ flared up this week so chewing is very uncomfortable. I see this as a great opportunity to spend a week on liquids and know my body will appreciate it for many reasons.

If anyone would like to join me in any version of fasting youÂ’d like to do... I will be posting each day what I've had to drink (keeps me motivated!) and how it is going. I so enjoyed following the last liquid fast and will refer to that thread for ideas and recipes.

Thank you all for such a supportive and friendly board and hope there are some takers for this adventure!

What types of blended foods are you referring to? Are smoothies allowed as a blended food? I was thinking of doing the Master Cleanse but this might work better for me.

Hi Allison!

Yes smoothies are allowed as a blended food, anything that ends up in a liquid state! I will be making fruit and veggie juices, smoothies, and blended soups. As many different fruits and veggies as I can blend into hopefully yummy combinations!

I am putting together a list of combinations I want to try this week as I am searching online and through all my raw books, I will be listing each day what I drink and the recipes too.

I have thought of doing the Master Cleanse too, but think the liquid diet will be better as I haven't done much fasting yet. Maybe later in the spring I will try the MC!

Hope you can join in too!

What is the benefit of using blended foods instead of regular food? I'm just trying to figure all of this out, because I can see myself blending up all kinds of stuff and end up eating just as much as I always do, just blended up. LOL

Is it not very safe to go on an all liquid fast? Your body wants food for a reason, I understand that you get all the same vitamins and minerals from squeezed juices, but you still need the solid form. At least that is my understanding.

Just curious, I might try it. ;)

There is a thread titled “Liqua-Fast: Join us in a fast of juices and blended meals!” (sorry I don’t know how to post links yet!) by Sweet lips started on 2-6-05. I followed the postings with such interest but wasn’t able at that time to join in. They used a combination of water fasting, juicing, smoothies and blended salads and soups. It is a great read! I encourage anyone to read this, it was my motivation!

I think the idea is for the digestive system to have a rest, to cleanse because it would most likely be lighter foods, (not much in the way of nuts and seeds), and staying all raw as a goal too. For me the rest for my TMJ will be nice and I think the foods will be much lighter than I would normally eat. Most list the cleansing effects are very nice and yet not as taxing on the system as a water fast when so many of us have such busy schedules. You are still getting plenty of calories to carry on with daily activities.

I am sure others could explain this better, please jump in if anyone with more experience on this are reading this thread!

Okay, I'm in. So I won't be blending up nuts or seeds, LOL, and that will make my diet a lot lighter. I won't use olive oil in any of the soups, either. I might add a tablespoon of ground flax seeds in my smoothies, but that will be it. I'll start tomorrow. For how long are you planning on doing this?

I am glad you are joining in too Allison! Yes, I won't be using nuts, seeds or oils either. That will really lighten up my diet. Maybe some ground flax for me as you mentioned as I usually do add this to my smoothies each day.

I am thinking my plan will be fruit juice in the morning, smoothie for mid-day (mostly fruit), and then dinner a blended green drink/soup. And a fruit/veggie juice for snacks.

I am planning to do this for a week, then see next weekend if I'd like to go another week. And just keep going a week at a time depending on how it goes.

How long are you planning on Allison and Penni?

I would like to join you in the juice fast. I will have to wait as I am in search of a juicer. I will be watching your journaling closely and look forward to your recipes. If anyone has suggestions on juicers and recipes, I would welcome them. I wish you well on your fast. God bless.

Cudawn,

If you have a blender, you can start the liqu-fast. During the process, I did some nut milks and blended them as well. The only oil, I added was flax seed - which gave me some wonderful benefits. Cinnamon, I will join you as I am doing a partial now anyway - with just breakfast and lunch and all snacks - I will journal what I consumme as I am not sure if my direction is full time.

You have full support from me. Suggestions - make these blended drinks what your body desires - if you do not want green, but are feeling guility for not having green, then don't have it - the mind will reject the desire. Take the stress out by laying out on the counter that which you think you will want and bring it together and then store it. If you have time meditate on silence just to let the one you worship talk with you - you will be amazed at what you will discover. Don't stress the moment.

I am so glad you will be joining us Sweet lips! I look forward to your input, and so enjoyed keeping up on the last fast you were doing.

I also only have a blender, wish I had a vitamix! And use a cheaper version of a juicer from Wal-Mart and it works fine too.

And thank you Sweet lips for the suggestions, just the words I needed to hear in beginning this new adventure in raw as I've not had more than a few day water fast several times.

I have a wonderful Yoga video I was planning to use this week too for stress reduction, Candlelight Yoga. I highly recommend it if anyone is interested.

This will be fun and I am so glad to have you all participating, anyone else please join in at any time!

And Sweet lips... I lived in Southern Maryland for a year (1997-1998) in Waldorf. I worked at the University of Maryland University College (Waldorf Center) and loved it there. I met so many wonderful people and one year was not nearly enough time for all the exploring I wanted to do in that area and the east coast!

I think I will take it one week at a time also. My mother is going to do it with me too.

What I'm thinking (may change my mind on the spur of the moment) is juice only during the day, and blended food (smoothie or soup) for dinner.

I will journal my intake in my journal area.

Day 1!

I am starting out on water this morning, when my body asks for "juice please" I will have some orange juice. I'll post this evening what my intake for the day is.

I look forward to checking out your journal Allison for your daily intake and what an inspiration your journal is, I have really enjoyed reading it! Also, that is wonderful your mother will be doing this with you.

Have a great day everyone!

OK, I'm in too.

The past two days I've had a little cooked food(first time in 8 weeks.. ugh! WHY?! lol) so I'm going to try to fast on juice and water till at least Friday to get back on track.

Day 1 today - I don't have fruit and vegies till I go shopping tonight so I'm going to fast on water today and then start juicing tomorrow. I will NOT be doing blended foods or soups.

I'm with you, Cinnamon. Just listen to what you're body's telling you.

Good luck everybody! Will check back with you guys later tonight!

I am so glad you are joining us too kiwikid78! You are right, this sure will help you get back on track. I'd been eating such heavy nut dishes lately, (too many yummy desserts!) so this will really lighten me up!

Today I have had:
Lots of water all day long!
orange juice in the morning and again in the early afternoon
smoothie-banana, strawberries and some mango (Mid-afternoon)
blended salad-banana, blueberries, carrot, and romaine with some arugula (dinner)

The arugula is pretty strong so I won't add that again. Tonight I may have some grapefruit juice. The day went well and I wasn't hungry with all the water filling me up too.

It is funny, you just "think" you have to eat solid food. It isn't like I ate any less or more than I usually would eat, just drinking it instead! I also got in some exercise, cardio workout included treadmill and elliptical for 45 minutes.

I hope everyone had a great day and I will be in touch again in the morning!

Day 1 went really well. I even had a dinner I had to attend with my husband. We had to walk through a buffet line and then go to our table. I didn't want to have to answer questions, so I got a plate and put some lettuce on it, but then NEVER TOOK A BITE. No one seemed to even notice. The speaker was so awesome, everyone was too busy paying attention to him.

hey everyone i 'm on the juice wagon with you. i definitly need to get back onto the raw wagon (I seem to keep falling off at night) :o this should get rid of all the stumbling. I will also be doing the blended juices and soups just nothing solid and only oils although i too may add the occasional flax seed  Gotta love those things. Gotta shop over lunch this means :) Blessings coffeesquirrel

oh and i had a pear this morning but i'm still gonna cound this as day one of my juice fast :) :p

That is wonderful Allison, such Grace in the time of need. I covered two meals with juice and a salad for my dinner. Currently, I am sticking to my two a day for now until something happens.

Welcome coffeesquirrel! Your plan sounds great and Sweet lips too!

I started with water, went to strength training class and did 30 minutes of cardio and now am drinking a large glass of orange juice. Not sure if I will make more juice to take with me for the day or a smoothie. My stomach was growling all morning, but I don't feel hungry. I'd like to stick with juice until afternoon and have the smoothie later today.

Anyone else feel free to jump in with us anytime! I'll check in tonight and everyone have a great day!!

Day 2

Water and orange juice until about 3:00 this afternoon (I was surprised I was not really hungry and pleased that this felt very cleansing!)

Smoothie-water, 2 bananas, frozen cherries, raw carob powder (really really yummy!)

Dinner-smoothie-banana, orange, strawberries, flax, romaine

Evening snack-smoothie-water, pineapple, carrots, spinach (really good combination!)

The most note worthy change I've noticed is that the usual bloated feeling (and look) to my stomach is much less. I am at a good weight for my height and body structure, (115 lbs.) but always have that tummy pooch!

Hope everyone had a good day and I look forward to your posts!

Day 2 went well for me. I'm struggling with the smoothie thing, though. They are definitely keeping me going on this, but I guess I'm just drinking too much, because they are making me feel heavy. It's not the same light feeling you get from just juice. I had a smoothie early in the day today, though, so I think that was part of it. I need to leave the smoothies for later in the day.

32 oz of orange juice 32 oz of water and 1/2 cup of brown rice - not quite my intended, but satisfied something in me.

Allison - what are you using for your smoothies? I just put all fruit in a blender and whiz with ice - thick but digestable.

How is everyone else doing?

My morning check in! I am doing water and orange juice again this morning and plan to continue this until late afternoon. And then a smoothie. I'll post later what else I had today and hope everyone else is having a great day!

For my smoothies, I either use fresh fruit and frozen bananas or I make a carob smoothie with frozen bananas, a couple of dates, and some raw carob powder.

Tonight wasn't so good. I had to go to an appointment this afternoon that was two hours away. I took a smoothie with me. When the appointment was over, I had been gone for four hours, and I was still two hours away from home. I went to a restaurant and had a salad. Hope I'm not kicked out of the group LOL. I plan to get right back to it tomorrow.

Hope everyone else had a good day!

Of course Allison you are not kicked out of the group! LOL Glad you could find something to eat though, salads are our best friend when we aren't at home and have to find something to eat in a restaurant.

Today was mostly water and orange juice until about 3:00. Then I had a smoothie-banana, orange, blueberries, cinnamon, romaine lettuce and some flax.

Dinner was a blended soup (I think that was what it was!) of water, fresh corn, avocado and some soaked almonds. I blended it until it was very smooth but since I can't eat any added salt it was a bit bland. It would have really good with some salt! I couldn't think of any type of seasoning that would have spiced it up that would have been yummy with that combination.

Tonight I will have Allison's carob smoothie, that sounds really good!

Have a great evening everyone!

This a.m. - tropical juice - coconut water, orange, mango and pineapple. The rest of the day is releasing strongholds, so I do not know what I will be doing.

Today started out with grapefruit juice, then added some orange to sweeten it up.

Two smoothies during the day, one with bananas, strawberries, romaine lettuce, and some mango. And the other bananas, a date, raspberries, and some flax. Love my smoothies!

Then this evening I was going to have another smoothie or some greens blended but I was just too tired so I did have a banana. I just didn't want to do any kitchen work, not even wash out the blender!

So back to juice in the morning, hope everyone had a great day!

I have a question about the green smoothies. Whenever I make them, there are always little bits of green all in it, like it's not completely blended up, although I do blend and blend. I just can't seem to get them to completely grind up. Is this the case with everyone else, or am I not doing something right? I always feel like I'm swallowing whole bits of greens (about 1 cm or less, but still).

Also, today will be my last day of liquids only. I am going to start juicing during the day, then having a regular dinner in the evening. I have really enjoying doing this liquid/blended food diet. It's given me perspective on how I was actually eating and the amount I was eating, so thanks for deciding to do this!

Hi Allison! About the green smoothies, for me there sometimes is a bit of the greens that don't seem to blend but for the most part they blend pretty well. I just use my Oster blender, nothing fancy! I wonder if those with a Vitamix or other high powered blender get a more liquid result with the greens.

We are on the same wave length it seems, I had decided that today will also be my last day of liquids. I have so many food obligations coming up with weekend it will be easier to just go back to my regular high percentage of raw eating!

Thank you to those participating this week and I hope others continue, you all have my support!

My intake today will be orange and grapefruit juice throughout the day. Late afternoon a smoothie and again a smoothie is the evening. I will add greens to both of these smoothies, romaine in one and kale in the other. And will be drinking lots of water!

Best wishes!

I use a smoothie maker and it blends pretty well, but I don't think you are doing anything wrong though. Today I made a juice that I drank, but it wasn't the best thing ever - beet, apple, cranberry and celery - not the best ever, but my veggies were fresh and I refused to throw it out - oh it was foamy too.

Dinner was just greens in a salad - I have done well, even a praise report, so I will be continuing as I am. I have some great things on the dehydrator and have sprouted some stuff as well.

It has been a pleasure and thank you Cinnamon for the idea. Be blessed

Here I am again! I am posting because I found I still did 3 smoothies today plus a green salad so I was fairly liquid and one of the smoothies is well worth writing home about!

I took 2 tangelos and 1 grapefruit and sectioned them and also squeezed all the juice out of them and put them in the blender. Wow, like an Orange Julius only much much better! I think this will be my new favorite breakfast drink.

And thank you also Sweet Lips for posting with us, it sure sounds like you are doing a wonderful job with raw and healing!!

cinnomon am i too late to join the liqua fast? Just wondering I'd love to join in if you are still going I might try it for a week I just got off of one but I don't think it did any good because I have eaten enormous amounts of food in the last two days...what is the master fast?
