If you mean the product sold in cans in most supermarkets, it's not raw. However, coconut is stable at high temperatures and may retain its enzymatic integrity after heating and processing. If you want a raw concentrate, try the coconut butter by Artisana. There's also a raw coconut creme powder that's being marketed but it's been out of stock when I tried to order it.

I've had the raw powder. It's good.
I have both and while the coconut powder is okay I just love the coconut butter... YUM!

I'm not sure if its raw, but they are pretty good about answering email questions. I'm going to venture a guess and say yes.

I bought some coconut oil today. I have no idea what to do with it. It's like a candle when I opened it. What the heck do I do with it? I just ate a tablespoon out of the jar. YUM YUM. NOT

I need an answer to that last reply also. I have coconut oil and was hoping to use it when I dehydrate sweet potato chips but I used olive oil because it would have been to much work to smear it on each potatoe slice. They came out good anyway Susan

jamesfarrell & smarison, if you want to use your coconut oil as an "oil" just place your jar (or an amount you're going to use in a glass container) in a bowl of warm water. Or just put the container somewhere warm. The oil will liquify pretty quickly.
As far as uses, you can add it to smoothies, nut recipes, raw frostings, salad dressings, etc.

Priceless!!!!!!!! Many just eat it straight from the jar. I have had some of the best stuff out there and it tastes like soap to me.
To get my therapuetic dose of like 2 - 3 tablespoons, I had to make a drink I dubbed the "Almond Joy" to bury the taste.
By the way, coconut cream concentrate tastes heavenly. But they all have different properties, the oil is still great to eat/use.

The extra virgin coconut oil is typically coconutty. If it has no flavor/odor, that is typically expeller-pressed.

Are you doing the JUST LIKE CHEESECAKE recipe? It's SO great! I use expeller pressed coconut oil for that reason for it. ;-)

I got my Omega Nutrition coconut oil yesterday. I just finished making the Even better than Just like Cheesecake. The one with the banana in it. From the batter, I can already tell it is smoother & really does taste even better. I have made many 'Just Like Cheesecakes' & always loved them. I can't wait until this is set to try it. I actually had a little batter left over...so I poured it in a tiny bowl. It is just about set. I'm going to try that now (without the crust) & I'll let you all know how it comes out & what I think of it! Of course I'm going to make a fruit topping for it now also & put it in the fridge. I always love eating it with sliced banana and honey on top of the cheesecake...but I'd like to try the fruit topping. Now...which fruit to use for the topping???????
