we don't need another 'cause our RAW % is getting HIGHER!!!!
:) Hoped you remeber that cheer!!!!
So I have a household of 7 and we all have our varying degrees of raw, vegetarian, whole foods etc...
The one agreed fact is that there is NO MEAT PREP IN THE HOME, PERIOD!!!
Our counter top fancy smancy insert style cooktop is on it's last leg. There's a broil side thats to messy to bother with, a down draft vent and two burners. One burner hasn't consistently worked since we lived here and the larger burner is now shorting out, sparking and even caught on fire
For maintaining the resale value of the home I researched a replacement and they are like 2x the cost of a dehydrator.
DARN!!!So guess we won't be getting a replacement anytime soon. ;)
:D VISUALIZING THE 9 TRAY DEHYDRATOR WITH TIMER :D
Typically I have the stove covered with a cutting board and fruit bowl, but since the winter, folks have been boiling water for tea, grits etc....
I'm so stoked to think that by default we will be down to a too small for any good oven and a built in antiquated microwave. (these too need to be replaced also). My preference is shelves for cookbooks, but again there is resale to think about.
I'll probably just remove the appliances as they crumble and then put a value for their replacement as part of the closing, in the event we decide to sell our home.
So I'm wondering if I pull out the stove top insert can I use it as some sort of planter for herbs and wheat grass that grow right out of the counter. There is great overhead lighting in that spot, and I'm sure I can change it out to some sort of grow light. The weather in TN is not conducive to year round outside growing so this would be an awesome option. (I really don't need more counter top space believe it or not.)

Thats an awesome idea! I so want a little mini garden built into my counter top- I could sprout anything, and have herbs year round, right where I need them!! I only use my stove to boil tea for water.
My dh and I are house-hunting- and truly, if we saw a house we liked with no stove, we would buy it without thought to the stove. Maybe someone raw will buy your house next!! They will think its heaven :-D
Basically, I am scared of the microwave we have- just the thought of microwaves being emanated into my house makes me gag. But we just bought the excaliber 9 tray dehydrator with money we got for Christmas- and I am afraid to look at the electric bill, as it hasn't stopped running since I took it out of the box :-) Its a much better investment than a stove, believe me!
If you get the garden going, take a pic and post it!!

I'd do it in a minute!
If you need hot water and stuff, you can always buy one of the single burners that you plug in.

Discussed a sunroom/ greenhouse desire/plan with hubby and our legitimate time frame for staying put vs. relocating.
He laughed about the counter top herb station but he supports all my schemes and looney ideas.
SO dehydrator sans stove it will be.
I'll check Lowes for flower bed boxes that might measure up and fit in place of the cook top insert.
I think I will need small boxes inside of a larger bin for proper drainage without risk of water damage to the shelving below. I'll research this all this week and get back to ya on it. ;)

WOW
Both stove eyes are on the blink now, and the antequated microwave (the kind with a metal rack inside) cooks about as fast as an easy back oven.
So I said my cheer around the family last night and my dd who's 15 years old says "well at least we still have the oven."
Hubby was like no problem, then he thought about all the fried tofu, battered falafel and was like we gotta get a stove.
I reminded him of the cost and he just sighed and gave ZEUS, our dehydrator, a little pat on the side:)

Yay - someone else who has named their dehydrator! Mine is called Edwin and even my non-raw partner refers to him as Edwin. Aren't they just the best?

Too funny!
we hauled our old one out a week or too ago, there was a mouse or something living in it! The oven part hasn't worked for a year or so.....
I'm not getting another one till I know for sure the critter deal is solved.....
DS (19) keeps bugging me about it though.......

Our stove died last month when my cousin acme to visit. I told my hubby that we did not have to spend 900 dollars to get a new one. I could use that space for my raw goodies. He could live with a microwave and a toaster over because he does not cook and I sometimes cook for him if he has to work late. I could have had a 5 vitamix mixers for the price of the stove he brought home. He cannot be left alone when it comes to buying appliances and tools.

Hmmm I wonder if you have a 30 day money back gurantee.
Maybe you can cut of the circuit breaker to the stove and act like it is broken. Would he check? Then you can return it.
Nah that probably wouldn't work and oh the deceit, naughty naghty, what was I thinking, don't wanna mess up your karma.
Ahh well just throw a cutting board on top and maybe he'll just use the oven and eventually get into RAW with you.

Last night, my DH said to me, "We do still have a stove in the kitchen, right?"
I have been using the stovetop as a landing pad for fruit, prep tools, etc. :p
About once a week, DH heats something up on the stove for his dinner. The rest of the time, he's been eating almost entirely raw with me.

I have a thick piece of butcher block covering my stove. On it I have an electric water kettle for tea water. If I want to make warmed soup, I either use the vita-mix or my electric fondue pot with a metal mixing bowl containing the soup (like a double-boiler). The microwave is out in the shed and only gets used to sterilize my kitchen sponge. I'm only keeping the microwave, because it belongs to my daughter who wants it back when she gets back from Germany. I love my vita-mix and my dehydrator. AND MY RAW FOOD!!!:D

WOW funny how thins change yet stay the same.
Zeus has been up in the cabinet for a few months, pulling him back out at some point tonight to start a batch of flax crackers.
Good news is we still ahven't replaced or stove!!!
Yeah, so glad to not be tempted with the luxury of a five eye fancy smancy burner set up, especially since I am reRAWING tommorow...midnight tonight actually.
