Hey All,

Next semester is quickly approaching and I want my health in check...(Spiritual health too) so I am going to keep the Sabbath holy by taking that day off - just prayer and meditation, maybe a walk- that sort of thing. So I thought it would be a good idea to give my body a one day fast. But I heard that the first day of the fast is more of a tear down day and the other days of a fast are the build up. So would it be beneficial to do a one day a week fast and on what?

Hi AsHIEy27... I did one day fasts each week, for awhile last spring... I found it became easier for me as I did them. I tried a variety of juices and water fasting during that time. Much of fasting is trying things and seeing what is best for you.

There's a variety of fasting information on the FASTING SUPPORT Thread in this section... that may be helpful. Just scroll down to the thread... and click on the 1st page.

Also, here is a link regarding once a week fasts from this site:

Yeah, fasting is great! It gives your body a rest, and messes around with your metabolisum.

Bragg recommends fasting 24-36 hours once a week. He also recommends longer fasts several times a year. By the way, he says that the only "real" fast is a fast on pure water with nothing added. I have been doing the 1 day fasts for the past few months. I do this on a workday. It is really very easy. I go to work and do all the activities of the day without problems. I don't do anything strenuous like a workout, but that's just me.
