I have been wanting to try the flax seed cracker recipes in Living on Live Food. I have a 9 tray dehydrator, so I waited until I had enough ingredients to fill it up so I could try several recipes at once. I soaked a huge bowl of seeds overnight before realizing I only have 4 paraflexx sheets. So I have this huge bowl of slimy flax seeds. They get slimy when you soak them overnight.
My hope is that the four trays of crackers will be ready by morning so I can use some of the soaked seed to make more crackers. I put the bowl of seeds in the fridge and plan to whip up more cracker recipes tomorrow. How long can I store them like that? This is my first time soaking flax seeds, and with only four trays at a time, it may take a few days before I can use up all the seeds. Also, I wasn't paying attention to the recipe when I soaked them. Rather than following the guidelines of two cups of water for every two cups of seed I just added a lot of water to cover the seeds. When the water was absorbed, i added more. I assumed I would be rinsing them like sprouts. So mine are probably wetter than they should be. I drained off as much of the slimy water as possible (it's like mucus, I swear!), but they are still quite moist.
I know now that I had better order 5 more paraflexx sheets. so i will have enough to fill my dehydrator for next time, but for now, I don't want to waste my flax seeds. Will they get gross if I leave them in the fridge a day or two after soaking overnight?

Probably not. I wouldn't let them sit longer than two more days though. You'll know when they're bad.

Thanks. I made a second batch today and the seeds kept very nicely overnight (2nd night total). So far I have made the basic flax crackers, golden flax crackers, and I put in the veggie flax crackers to dry today. They dried a lot faster than expected, so by tomorrow morning, I should be able to try the banana flax cracker recipe. The basic and golden are very good. The golden flax kind are colorful and pretty. I mixed dark seed with golden seen for all recipes. Hopefully, the seeds will store another night without getting gross.

this answered the slimy flax seed question. However...when processing, unless i've ground the flax seeds with a grinder, the seeds will not grind, correct; they pretty much stay whole? Also, I spread the mixture pretty thick on the teflex sheets and left them over night. when i woke up this morning, i flipped the cracker "sheet" over since the bottom part was still moist. i'm doing this right, right?

i'm going to buy me a coffee grinder to help with grinding the flax and sesame seeds. now...when i make crackers using ground flax seeds, do i first grind the seeds and THEN soak them? or do i skip the soaking step?

Actually,

When I make flax crackers, I do as the recipe states, but just mix everything in a bowl (I cut up all the veggies first), then once its mixed, I put half of it into my Vitamix and leave the other half as is...the half in my Vitamix blends up great (just have to add a wee bit of water to it)...then I mix it into the other half - works great.

We soak and sprout the flax seeds, rinsing them in their slime twice and day and letting it drain in a strainer. We generally sprout for 3 - 4 days, until we see the tails.

We then grind them in the Vitamix with raisins or dates until the make a pudding.....yummy!
