View Full Version : Percentage of fat and protein for weight loss?
I've attempted raw before but failed. I didn't really know what to eat or how to eat and got bored and I think I probably have Candida so fruit was leading to binges and cravings. Besides nuts and seeds, its easy for me to binge on carrots and grapes.
I'm currently doing a 50 day fast and am on day 30 of the MC. For the last 10 days I want to do a regular fruit and veggie juice fasts to help replenish whatever nutrients I'm missing out on the MC (which is a lot..). So when I get off the fast I want to go into raw, as close to 100% as I can and then I want to concentrate on the weight loss. I have that "false fat" problem where I just get..bloat and puffy in certain areas like my hips and on the MC is the only way I have ever been able to lose that but it doesn't start happening untill after day 25. So once it's gone again I want to lose everything else.
I've read about the 8-1-1 thing and I really don't think it's for me. 1. I don't want to live off of fruit/sugar..like I said, good chance I have candida. At this time of year my organic choices are pretty much bannans and apples anyway. 2. I know I am a "Protein Type". 3. There's no way I can eat salads with no fat or half my vegetables. I love salads but I love them with dressing. I don't want to live off of smoothies and juices either, I'm already doing that now and I'm sick of it.
On the other hand, I'm currently living off of sugar from the maple syrup and feel fine.. But my digestive system is shut down and with fruit it'll probably be different.
So are there any other reccomended diet percentages for weight loss? That "Calories in vs Calories Out" has never worked for me either..For one I have thyroid issues.
I was thinking of trying a Ketosis .. "Atkins" type diet (100% Raw of course). Fat is easy to get and I'd still get my vegetables and no sugar. Any thoughts on that working? I can't think of anything else.

No0b,
If you don't already have it, I reccomend getting Living on Live Food by Alissa Cohen. She has worked with many people including her own self with getting rid of candida simply by eating raw without restricting fruit. This was also my own personal experience with candida...going raw, period, helped me get rid of oral thrush and chronic vaginal yeast infections!
This way, you have the option of eating a wide variety of foods that will keep you satisfied as well as give your body what it needs in the way of fat, protein, and all else.

well, for your salads you could try a tahini dressing made with a couple tablespoons of raw tahini mixed with just enough orange juice to make it a bit creamier. it tastes wonderful, and provides a good amount of fat, and is still raw.
you could also do snacks like celery with a lot of almond butter, carrots and almond butter, make guacamole and use that as a dip or as a salad dressing, make blended salad or carrot salsa (recipe in alissas book), stuffed pesto mushrooms..there are a lot of low-sugar recipes..and if you incorporate regular tahini, almond butter, avocadoes into your diet itll be high fat/protein, low sugar.
i, personally, get that "bloaty-ness" when im high fat..as i have a hard time digesting fats (i do best on high-carb)..so these are just suggestions, not experiences. though i do eat a lot of greens in the evening with tahini dressing, and do frozen raspberries blended with OJ mostly in the mornings..just preference.
so far as the cravings issue with fruit, if you stick to lower-sugar fruits like berries (frozen and added made into smoothies, maybe) that could at least provide a bit of variety to your diet.
i tried low-carb raw a while back..it made me incredibly dizzy and i only lasted 3 days. but, as i said, im a high-carb person..so maybe it would help you? i guess my suggestion is just to give it a try..there are a lot of lower-carb recipes in alissas book (though theyre not marketed as that by any means) and either way, its raw and i dont think it will hurt you. if you feel crappy on it..id, like i said, add in some low-sugar fruits (berries or citrus).
good luck :) congrats on your fast, too. thats awesome!

1. Candida only thrives on sugar when a diet rich in fat does not allow the sugar to leave the blood.
2. I am suprised to hear a vegan (I am assuming that you are) claiming to be a protein type when there is so much research on how too much protein is bad for humans!
3. On 811, one can have salads with delicious thick dressings made with raw nuts and fruit juices blended. You should read more about 811 before making assumptions.
Just wanted to clear some things up. Good luck to your health!

I tried raw and failed because of cravings like you. I found out that it was because I wasn't eating enough sweet juicy ripe fruit. Now I am golden.
Good luck to your health!

I second the recommendation of reading Alissa's Book and try the RAW Diet again from a different mindset/perspective.
Throw out all the ideas you have now and go into it with an open mind.
You may find you LOVE RAW, Can eat FRUIT, Could do 8-1-1..
Ask yourself what it is you can do with the Raw diet, not what you cannot !

I think I have candida also. I find that going 100% raw (no cheats, like before I was allowing alittle soda!) is helping my chronic skin rash....I also have trouble loosing weight...suspicious of a thyroid problem, but exercise and staying raw (and no soda) and I've lost 3 lbs in 3 days!! AND I'VE BEEN EATING WHATEVER I WANT!!
Stay raw....100% for 30 days, and see the changes....don't limit yourself to any certain food, but I do suggest getting lots of vegetables and fruits and maybe limiting the nuts to a small amount a day! It's my understanding that too much fat is what's keeping the candida sugars in our blood. The fasts that your doing should help get rid of that though, don't ya think...so if I were you, I would just continue on with raw eating.
God Bless

I highly recommend Alissa's book too!
I didn't have weight loss as my goal when I went raw last December, but I have found that my body composition has changed and I'm leaner and more cut.
The funny thing is that I eat more fat now than when I did cooked! Of course, these are healthy fats in avocados, nuts, seeds, etc. The natural fats have enzymes that help to eat up body fat. Yeehaw!! :) It's just that you have to balance it. For example, I eat 7-8 nuts as a snack once a day. Or, a half avocado during one part of the day and the other half later. I eat tons of greens and sprouts too to balance it out :) Greens and sprouts is how you get your amino acids 'cause as Alissa mentions in her book, your body doesn't make protein from protein, but rather amino acids and greens have the highest concentration of any amino acids out there in the food chain :)
I've been using raw hemp powder (1 scoop) in my a.m. smoothies and it's really helped to balance my blood sugar. I used to have major candida issues, but I've noticed them balancing out and I don't have any symptoms like before :)
I always tell people to focus on health first with dietary changes and diet and then, the weight loss will naturally follow :) And, keep a vision of yourself or some other representation of how you want to look and feel. I did that as I started my own raw journey and so far, I've manifested or created it all :)
