Two threads in one day from me. :p

On another board I go to, a member asked me why raw foods were better for you than cooked. Now, I know why... but i'm terrible at explaining things, so... I know what I want to say, but i'm not quite sure how to say it. :p So... what should I tell her? :D Help!

I am just like you. It's so hard for me to explain things. hmmm..maybe you can direct her to Alissa's site or other sites that helped you, so they can get an idea. Hey you got me into raw by giving me some sites, so maybe that would help that person, too.

I find that people don't give a crap about stuff you show them to read. The best way is to explain it clearly and concisely and let them investigate further if they want.

You could try this list of points:

"The process of cooking foods alters the foods in such a way as to destroy any nutritional value it has in its natural state. Vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and other elements of a plant are ruined by the extreme heating of cooking. Pasteurizing milk and juices has the same effect.

Our bodies are designed to eat an herbivore's diet. You can tell this by our wide, flat, dull teeth, and our long intestines (carnivores have short intestines).

The nutritional value which people assign to meat and dairy relates to protein and calcium. These animals are herbivores, and we can find protein and calcium in great sources through plants and nuts. Cooking meat destroys much of the protein, and meat takes days to digest.

Much of the cooked food we eat contains toxic substances. Precooked, packaged, and fast foods often contain preservatives and other harmful chemicals used only for taste and appearance. Cooking food in certain containers releases gases and metals which enter the food. Eating raw organic foods allows you the best idea of what is in your meal.

We eat certain cooked foods (cheeses, cooked carbs) not because they are good for us, but because our body has learned to crave them.

Look at the results: 100% raw eaters rarely get sick, are vibrant people, have tons of energy, and are able to heal certain degenerative diseases.

Raw foods can taste amazing!"

Try any or all of those, who wouldn't be convinced?

Thanks, BrianC! Is it okay if I copy/paste what you said? :) You pretty much explained everything I wanted to say. :)

Of course, that's why I wrote it! Hopefully we get some converts.

i would keep it positive...on the side of how amazing raw foods taste....makes you feel....that raw works for you....and why....

i usually dont start bashing cooked food or how "bad" cooked food is....

if somone asks about raw foods...it seems sorta important to have an answer about it....instead of saying it is "too hard to explain"....

I just say that anything cooked, processed, denatured, etc. (you may or may not want to use the term "dead") that isn't fresh and whole is hard on a body to process and assimilate, and that is why we have so much disease and illness...a body processing all this food loses the opportunity to heal itself.

Allowing a body to refuel on whole fresh plant foods frees up plenty of energy in order for the body to heal and function as it is meant to.

Simple as that.
