It's the morning of the 7th of Jan here in the UK, and I just got off the scales - since I went 100% on NYE, I've already lost 4 kilos! That's 4 kilos in 6 days, which is way more and way faster than when I was fasting half a year ago. Just goes to show, doesn't it?

Btw - I have noticed that my teeth are getting whiter (I've never drunk coffee or smoked, but they've still whitened a couple of shades), but unfortunately also a lot more sensitive. Has anyone else experienced this? Will it pass?

Anyway - just wanted to share!

Wow! I lost pretty quickly when I went raw, but I'm now steady at 65 or 66 kg. I still have some fat for the winter - probably I'll lose it in the spring. Paradoxically, eating raw fat helped me lose weight!

Your teeth may be repairing themselves. I had a chipped tip on my upper right canine, which some time back became more sensitive; a few weeks later, it had grown a smooth bit over it.

I never had sensitive teeth up until early last year. I don't know what changed them. It wasn't raw because I wasn't raw then but I still suffer from it. I brush with tooth paste made for acid wear and sensitive teeth but it doesn't help much. Just biting into an orange or apple straight from the fridge really makes me cringe! Ow ow ow ow!!! :(

Thanks for all your kind comments! :)

I have never had problems with sensitive teeth before, and I am now starting to wonder if it's simply the fact that my fridge is too cold... It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the type of food I eat, it's only when I have to bite into something fairly substantial, like a carrot. Will look into that - and have also bought a healthier toothpaste today (one with aloe vera for sensitive teeth) so that might help as well. No more SLS for this girl! I also got hold of a soap containing only olive oil, water and mineral salts, so pretty soon I should be healthy both inside and out! ;)

Pierre, that is so cool! 65 is my first big goal - I am 79 as of today, but I am only 1,59 m tall, so that's quite a lot! I wish I had stumbled across raw years ago!

I'm 1.51 m and weighed 81 when I started raw. I weighed 84 when I started recording (on LHC, which is down now, so I can't say when that was).

Here's what I use for my teeth:
3 parts tea tree oil
2 parts peppermint oil
1 part clove oil.
Mix in a small bottle and put a fraction of a drop on the toothbrush.
I don't brush every day; it seems that plaque is caused much more by grain consumption than by what I eat now.

Thanks again for all the encouraging comments!

Missrawdiva, I believe 4 kg is the equivalent of 8.8 pounds - am hoping it will be more by tomorrow morning though! ;) I am detoxing quite a lot I think - have been feeling very feverish for the last three days.

Thanks for the "toothpaste" tip, Pierre! And wow! That is a weight loss of very nearly 20 kilos!! Do you mind if I ask approximately how long it took you to go from 84 to 65?

Anyways - it's time for beddy byes now!

Take care, everyone! This forum is rawsome! ;)

That's amazing! I haven't lost any weight on raw. :(
What are you eating?

How much did you lose when you were fasting?

My teeth are much more sensitive. I think it's all the acid. If I have fruit, there's fruit acid. If I have veg there's lemon juice in the sauce. If I have salad, there's vinegar or lemon juice in the dressing. Also I drink a lot of juices, and eat a lot of blended fruit, or soups, and they get all over your teeth. Also I have to chew a lot more on raw, so my teeth are in contact with the food (and the acids in it) for much longer. I probably didn't chew much on a cooked diet, and my teeth didn't get as much contact with food.

I use a natural toothpaste, Kingfisher fennel flavour, from Tesco. I used that before I was raw. My mother has always had sensitive teeth so she always used sensodyne but now she uses the same as me.

Wow I'll have to try that. I never thought of using something homemade.

I think I started recording in summer 2005 and I've been raw about half a year. Still can't get to LHC to check. (I've also been recording my hair length.)

My breakfast is usually a fruit smoothie, about 3/4 frozen. I pack a lunch of salad, which these days is cabbage-heavy and seasoned with soy sauce and tastes more like stir-fry than salad, and nibble on it in the afternoon. I also eat olives, pecans, Brazil nuts, and some other nuts.

You probably won't lose weight continuously, but lose for a few weeks, then stay at one weight for a few more weeks, then lose again. Le corps a ses raisons...

And that's exactly what's happened - the scales have said 79 every morning for 3 days now! :( Oh well, I knew that would happen!

Bobbie, I eat very simply - I have only just started with raw so I haven't had time to get into the more complicated dishes yet! I normally have some goji berries in the morning, then a smoothie and/or some fruit, and a mahusive salad in the evenings! I normally have 3-4 different types of lettuce/cabbage, and loads of other stuff, like peppers, tomatoes, sugar snaps, pine kernels (I know they contain a lot of fat, but they are SO delicious in salads - especially if they've had time to absorb some of the dressing!) and so forth. I also snack on almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and a brazil nut (I am allergic to hazelnuts so I eat very few nuts per day so as not to aggravate it - the doc said I could develop asthma if I was not careful).

The fast - well, I shouldn't really be saying this, but when I fasted, I fasted for 3 weeks on water and juice. Please note that you should NEVER do this on your own - the only reason I dared to try it was because I had read tons of information on the topic and that my fiancé is a paramedic! Anyhow - I only lost 9.5 kg and regained 2 kg as soon as I started eating again, even though I ate raw at the time. Apparantly, that weight gain is the difference between an empty and a full intestine. We then lost the third house in a row that we'd been trying to buy, so I got so depressed that I started eating a lot of junk food and in a matter of weeks I regained all the weight plus one kilo! But now I am the proud owner of a seaside bungalow, so that's very unlikely to happen again! Raw is definately a much better route to go, and as it's naturally detoxing, I don't think I'll ever go on a fast again! :D
