I want to convert the recipe below to raw. The only thing non-raw is the "toasted wheat germ". What should I use to substitute it? I want to keep the recipe nut-free, because I want to make these as something my daughter can take to school (it's a nut-free school). I wonder if it would be fine just leaving it out?

Any ideas appreciated, here's the recipe below:

Sunflower-Sesame Treats

3/4 cup sunflower seed meal
1/4 cup tahini (ground seame seed)
1/2 cup unsweetened coconut shreds
1/4 cup honey
1/3 cup toasted wheat germ
1/3 cup finely-chopped dates or raisins

Mix ingredients in medium-sized bowl.

Separate mixture into two portions. Place each portion on a separate piece of wax paper. Form into rolls. Wrap securely in wax paper and store in refrigerator.

When sufficiently chilled, remove from refrigerator; unwrap roll and cut into one-half inch pieces. Serve as a snack or accompany with fruit after a hearty meal. Yield: two 4-inch rolls.

I'd just leave it out.

edit: course I'd add more coconut and sunflowers to adjust for the lack of the wheat germ, probably more coconut.

How about some ground golden flax seeds?

Since it's such a small amount, I'd just leave it out. It's probably only in the recipe for the alleged "health" benefits of wheat germ.

There's raw wheat germ, maybe you could use that? or just leave it out
