I'd love to try to fast on these... sounds like it might work, and hopefully take away my cravings for cooked foods, but I dont know exactly what they are (as in what they are made of)... any good detoxifying recipes?

When I first started making green smoothies I just used the greens and bananas.
Somewhere I read (I believe it is in a testimony in Alissa's book) where someone said they make a smoothie with 1 banana, 2 oranges, and 1/2 c frozen berries ... so that is my *basic* format. From that I add in greens.
If you look in the January challenge thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24573) you will find that some of us post the contents of our green smoothies :)
I would suggest that you get the Green For Life book from Victoria Boutenko (www.rawfamily.com).

Parsley is excellent ! It does not taste good on its own so juice it with an apple, and some celery.
Cilantro is great too but I cannot handle the taste. :(

I mixed a batch of greens up today for a calcium and bone builder. I was not real thrilled with it but it was pretty good. I put in cabbage, 4 flowerets of brocolli, couple celery stalks, 1 apple, parsley, a mint sprig and a few soaked almonds.
well, it tasted pretty good but I think the mint was a bit much with the parsley and believe this is whats too strong. But, I will drink it for my inbetween snacks tomorrow.

I juice three carrots, one apple, a little ginger and use that liquid with my smoothies. It's really worth the extra effort. I just float around on all of that good energy for hours afterwards. My favorite base ingredient in smoothies is pear.

Stina, I am going to try this one. How do you do the ginger. Do you slice a piece of it off and put it in the juicer too?

A smoothie is different than a mixed juice. If you're making your creation in a juicer, it's juice, and not a smoothie.
Smoothies are the whole fruit and greens blended with liquid.

I'm curious how you can juice ginger? Isn't it already dry? Or is my juicer not good enough because it doesn't crush everything?

I just LOVE green smoothies and have one EVERY morning. For my base, I use 2 tbs raw tahini w/8 oz of water and a banana.... read that somewhere on this forum months ago.... anyway, then i add greens, sometimes one, but usually two of the following; kale, collard, baby spinach, chard, parsley, mint..... then sometimes i use frozen organic berries, apples, celery, cucumber, ginger, oranges or clementines, and agave nectar..... The tahini really makes it into a sesame milk and that combined with the greens really gives me a huge dose of calcium, not to mention energy for my morning.....
SOOOOOOOOOO easy and yummy ;)
Have fun experimenting and enjoy your RAWsome creations!!!

I break off about half an inch of ginger and put that through with everything else in my Champion. Wouldn't seem like much but it makes for quite a strong, warming sensation. I love ginger's zing in my juice base that I add to smoothies, but less is more. So good for my digestion.

I am having right now 1 banana, 1 cup of just squeezed orange juice as for some reason I just can't take the orange fiber, a giant handful of spinach, and 1 kiwi fruit. Muy bueno!

My favorite is bana, pear, and kale. I use water as the liquid. Put liquid and kale in first to really blend smooth, then add in the other fruits. Usually use frozen banana. Sometimes I use frozen pear as well.
Forzen pear and chard or kale blended in an FP or vitamix makes a delicious green ice cream too!
Today I had (this was for 2 people):
2 large leaves chard
juice from an orange
1 avocado
handful frozen strawberries
handful frozen blueberries
1 banana
water
some date juice

Any thoughts on adding fresh alfalfa sprouts to the green smoothies? I did that today and it was bland-- may be overpowering even with a few sprouts. I knew it had to be good and skipped the taste detraction.
My husband even drank it too and he's finally getting into smoothies. We do ours with coconut water (young white coconuts I buy at Asian market cheap) or water if I don't have any coconut water.
Someone shared to blend the water and the greens first and going to try that first since sometimes I don't end up blending all the green particles in the smoothie and may taste better to hubby.
