Is anyone doing this with an autistic child who is following a GFCF diet?

Hi!

I ordered Alissa's book and DVD last night. What I'm wondering is if there is anyone who has used any of the food for their autistic/aspie child who is also following a GFCF diet? Were there any substitutions you had to make? If so, what were they?

Anything anyone can tell me if they've done this in this type of situation would be great! Thanks so much!

Hi! I'm trying to transition my Aspie daughter to GFCF now, and then to raw.

I myself need to be GF, so that has been a concern I've already had to address. The raw vegan diet is naturally CF, so no worries there.

As for the GF, Alissa has a number of recipes in her book that do contain sprouted wheat berries. I saw a recent discussion about using a substitute for those. I know someone suggested spelt, but that obviously still has gluten. Someone else suggested sprouted buckwheat, but I don't know if the recipe would hold together as well without the gluten from the wheat. If I can find a source for raw buckwheat, I might play around with adding some flax or psyllium to those recipes to see if they'll act as a binder. I'm also guessing the usual vegetable gums could also be used in a pinch, but I doubt they are raw.

Keep an eye on the one's by Allison...she had some VERY inspirational stories of her son and his progress from the raw "diet" and if I recall correctly, she made a lot of Alissa's recipes for him and the rest of her family. She hasn't posted here in a long while, but you may be able to contact her via email if it's in her profile or a website in her signature. Also, to get an idea of her menu for her family, you can look at her journal in the journalling area.

Rawkinlocs - Oh my gosh! I just read through them! That is so awesome! Justin is verbal now, but he wasn't until I got him help and put him on GFCF 6 years ago! But he's been off that for a while now and we're just getting ready to start it again now. Thanks so much!
