Does anyone eat raw steak? Obviously not vegan, is it even 'raw' (diet)? Are there risks? I know a lot of people like their steak so rare it's still cold in the middle. Are most raw foodists ethical vegans?

i'd assume most here go the strict vegan route, but i know Carol Alt mentions raw meat, fish and dairy in her book.

Frog, this site is in support of raw vegans. There are other sites where you can find this information. Please read Alissa's mission statement.

I can't find a mission statement, but I have a general idea of what it would contain anyway I think. I thought this was a raw food forum when I signed up, I'm understanding now that it's more of a support forum (for some gurus books and videos). That's cool, but I'm interested in learning and not blindly following. I'll do that elsewhere as you suggest. THanks for those that answered some of the many questions I've already asked that happened to mesh with Allisa's doctrine.

Do a search for paleo diets and you'll find info regarding this subject.

Most unwise to eat such foods today due to farming practices and medications/hormones/disease, etc.

Thanks mongo.

I think I found the mission statement (a sticky post?), I also read allisacohen.com. This site isn't for me. I'm not Allisa's follower. I'm a free thinker that's going to question everything and I can't hold my tongue, it's just not me. So I'll leave before I piss people off.

Thanks again, it is a nice site with lots of good info and good people.

Truth Frog,

Your response is so harsh and unfair. It IS a raw food forum and yes, it was intended for the purpose of reiterating what Alissa has written in her book. Now, if you were to read Living on Live Food, you would see that what is written is a very comprehensive, very down-to-earth, very freestyle approach to a raw plant-based "diet" or rather lifestyle.

It's not like there are not other raw food forums or forums period that are more specific...Doug Graham's forum is a raw food forum that is specific to the 811 approach to raw - there are some raw forums that are very specific to being vegan or being paleo (animal product-based). So, just because this forum is specific to an approach to raw that happens to NOT include animal products and doesn't focus on any and all approaches to raw it has to be deemed a blind-following?! Okay, that's fine because you are entitled to your opinion. No one here is blindly following anyone - many people here do their own thing regardless to whether it coincides with Alissa's approach or not...if you want to eat raw meat, that's your perogative but since this forum IS paid for and hosted by Alissa Cohen, then it would be only considerate and fair that people stay in line with the rules that she has set forth for this forum...what you do outside of here is your own business.

Outside of this thread and the one about the "warning against certain veggies" do you mean to tell me that you've gotten NOTHING out of being a part of this forum that has benefitted your raw lifestyle? If you choose to leave, that is certainly your choice and right, but don't let what you consider to be the "bad" outweigh any good you have received or can receive from being here.

You can go to any online forum, any job, any church (if you attend), any school, etc and there is ALWAYS going to be something or someone that you may not like but if those things don't outweigh all the good things you can get out of the experience then you serve yourself a great injustice by focusing on the perceived negative rather than the positive. You glean what you can from it and what you cannot, you get from other outside sources.

But, if you still want to leave, we wish you well in all your truth seeking and your raw journey!

See, this is why I'm leaving, i don't want negativity in my life and I don't want to bring it into someone elses.

It's a great site, yes I absolutely got a lot out of it in only a few short days, but I'm looking for a forum where I can ask questions and not be told to go elsewhere because certain questions aren't allowed. If all I wanted to do is learn about Allisa's approach I'd read her book, I'm looking for a general 'raw food' community. This isn't it, that's MY mistake. Not a big deal. Allisa doesn't want certain questions here that's great, it's her site, everyone here likes it that way, I'm happy for everyone that's able to participate, I can't.

About the "blind followers" line, I happen to believe that health is a personal responsibility, and it's one you can't fulfill when you're a "follower". When it comes to your health you need to be a leader. I'm really passionate about that. The word "follower" is on Allisa's site, it's not my word. I know not everyone agrees with me, and I'm not arrogant enough to think they should, so theres no hard feelings or preachiness on my part, this site just isn't for me.

Everyone here seems great, I'm sincerely thankful. I'm sorry for any negativity in this post or anything else I've posted, nothing but love for all the raw foodies, the vegans and the raw steak lovers alike.

And personally I find raw steak kind of disgusting, I doubt I'd ever try it, I was just curious.

Okay, well if you ever decide to come back for the commeraderie or the warm, fuzzy raw family type environment, we'll be here with arms open wide! :) I still say you can remain here if nothing else but for the support aspect or to get some really delish recipes or to get what information we DO tend to offer or what have you and just do the hardcore, no holds barred searching in other places - but if you feel you must go...you have to do what you feel.

I don't usually try to convince folks to stay when they say they're leaving...there must be something special about you! ;)
