:o hi everyone.i was 245 pounds and had high blood pressure and had to be on high cloresterol meds and had arthritis so bad.the dr. put me on a diet of no sugar and no salt and low fat.that was oct.18thof 2006.i have lost 38 lbs.i am leaning toward raw foods but still eat soup.and cooked oatmeal.i have been trying to do the 10,000 steps a day exercise program.so the weight is dropping. i have been reading some of the postings and wondered what a green smoothie is. i am reading and learning more. today for lunch i had a half an avocado mashed.i cut up a tomato and onion and mixed them in with the avocado and then scooped into 2 halfs of green bell peppers and ate. so good.i am happy to be getting exercise and am still cooking some...but trying not to.i feel way better. been drinking like 3-32 oz. bottles of water every day.thanks for reading this.taylor

Welcome to the group. I too have some medical issues. I have been Raw for approx 30 days, some days more Raw than others. I love Green Smoothies. They are very easy to make. Just make any smoothie you like and add some greens to it.

This is one I like to make. Put 1 cup of orange juice and 1 or 2 Bananas in the blender and get them going. I then start putting in handfuls of spinach. Sorry but I don't measure much

You can use any green leafy vegetable you like.

Try this out, I think you will enjoy.

I was slow to pick up on the taste of green smoothies...but now I think I've adopted it as something I actually like. The trick for me is to use a ton of citrus so that you can successfully mask the taste of the green things, which, in my opinion, properly belong in salads...lol. So, I use a lot of oranges and the occasional dash of lemon juice in mine. Or sour apples (like granny smith kind), and a banana. :)

You are on your way to a Good start......Just take it one day at a time. So right, your body will began to talk to you in a language you will understand. Before RAW our bodies always spoke in a foreign tongue, so we got all the mixed signals and lots of trouble.

100% is Always the best but since this is YOUR Journey, you travel as you choose. Remember you bought the ticket, I am just here to Welcome you aboard and to CHEER you on. I always want the best for you because you make ME SHINE and SMILE because of your Excitement and Vigor.

Congratulations on getting rid of all 38lbs of that gooe that was sticking to and sucking the life out of you.

I wish you everything you need to Stay RAW....Welcome to MY World.......

A great resource with recipes for green smoothies is Victoria Boutenko's Green for Life . This book has at least 25 recipes in it. It also talks about the benefits of greens, has lots of nutritional info, etc.

glcoop60-u say u have been on this raw diet for 30 days-what kind of issues did u have and it has helped i can imagen alot.

Hi again Taylor. You asked about my health issues. I have been suffering with headaches for approx. 15 years. I was never diagnosed with migraines though. Two years ago I injured my neck and had to have a disc removed.

After the surgery, I started having very quick, sudden, and painful headaches in one area of my head. They would last about 5 seconds each and go continuously for a minute or two. My whole body would tense up with each one. I would get these about 5 times a day.

I was diagnosed with migraines called thunderclap headaches. The sudden bursts of pain were actually small seizures. I was placed on anti-seizure meds and Imitrex for when the seizures would lead to a long term migraine.

I started Raw foods to loose weight. I was tired of feeling uncomfortable and tired all the time. To my amazement, after about the first week, I had no headaches or seizures of any kind. I my whole journey, I have only had two episodes, and they weren't that bad.

I hope you find all you need here. There are plenty of people here willing to help and give advice.
