Anybody done this? I just signed my daughter up for ballet/tap/jazz class (she's 6) and I think I'm alittle "jealous", I never got to "dance" when I was young. I would like a "program" that incorporates ballet and yoga, or a graceful "dance" with exercise. I want something that will be considered "aerobic", but maybe not "jumping" and hard on the joints...more "peaceful" like yoga.....too much to ask??? I could use ya'll help. I have tons of DVD's, and get bored, or seem to "not like" what I have. I like my yoga DVD (ashtanga yoga) but would like something with more dance to do also. Thanks in advance for ya'lls advice.

PS, I should mention that I'm not "into" the chanting that goes with yoga, so if the program is "full" of that, I WON'T do it ;)

It might be more effectvie to join the YMCA and get in on a class, or even pay up front for a class in your area. I did that with belly dancing, committed to classes so I went, I also bought a couple belly dancing DVD's but hardly used them. It can get hard to do that in the house, especialy when you don't want people/pets around while you are trying to concentrate.

I think YBB is a LOT of fun. They have a couple different packages. The first is the Goddess Package and it has a lot of toning ballet moves, core work, and 2 dance sections that are okay. I think there is one yoga section.
I like the LIVE series a lot better. They have 6 different tapes each with a diferent theme filmed at their live class. They start with a Kundalini yoga warm up that is about 5 minutes long. Then there is a 20-30 minute dance segement (I like Go-Go and Cardio Caberet the best, Bollywood and Latin are the hardest) followed by a short core section or ballet section and a couple yoga poses. The whole thing lasts like 45 minutes. I love these when I can't bring myself to do anything else. Gillian and Teigh lead the routines and they are very inspiring and pretty cheesy telling you about what a Goddess you are. One thing that you might feel strongly about is that when they do the dances sections they teach you a move, do it, and then teach you the next move and then start over from the beginning every time so you do the first moves like a thousand times. Some people hate this but if you have trouble following moves it is great. I don't think there is any chanting
My absolute favortie yoga dance video is Ravi and Ana's Dance the Chakras. They do Kundalini yoga which is all about spine flexibility and movement. I do it every day. This video is really fun, Ana used to be a professional dancer before she got into yoga and she moves so joyfully. This one starts with are really complete maybe 25 minute section of yoga that goes through each of your chakras and then the second section has free form follow along dance segements. There are 4 sections, some of them are pretty tough and some are more meditative. I think this one ends with a mantra but you can always skip it, the whole thing probably runs close to an hour without it. Another great aspect of this DVD is that they have preset shorter workouts that you can choose from if you are limited on time.
ANOTHER good one (sorry this is a favortie topic for me :)) is Shiva Rea's Yoga Trance Dance. This one has presets too and is filmed really really beautifully out in the desert. Like YBB there is only a drum beat. This one has a bunch of different sections and you can pick and choose so I haven't done all of them. Some are meditations some are like tribal dance and some are flowing yoga.
I am also excited to try Soul Sweat but I haven't done it yet.

Hmm the Dance the Chakras is more movement then dance. I can't remember doing anything really graceful that was more ballet its more free form. I know there is a tape called the NYC Ballet that I have read about. Check out these reviews, it sounds like something you might like http://www.videofitness.com/reviews/nycballet.php
